Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Travel cot for a 1 year old who is as tall as a 2.5 year old

Our 12 month old baby is just under 90cm tall and weighs 13kg. Our pediatric nurse says she's the size of a 2.5 year old and her height to weight ratio are totally fine. She's just grown really fast.

Could anyone please recommend us a travel cot?

  • It's got to be on the floor because we need one that doesn't have a weight limit. - and long as possible
  • as light as possible for travelling abroad

And if you own the one you're recommending could you tell me how long the actual mattress is? A lot of travel cot dimensions are for the actual cot frame and not the mattress. So for example the Micralite travel cot dimensions is reported as 112cm long, but it turns out the mattress is just 104cm long.

Rather than struggling with a cot for such a tall child I would go with a floor bed (basically a mattress on the floor), I think you might struggle to find a cot that didn't seem cramped.

One of those airbeds with sides on? We had one for my nephew when he came to stay as a toddler

@VivaVivaa I was looking at the arc 2 but I worried that my baby wouldn't like not being able to stand up in it and she might find it disorienting compared to a regular cot.

Did you have any issues when you started using it?

@handmademitlove I like the look of the babydan but the max weight it can take is 13.6kg and my baby is already 13kg 😂

@SweetAndSourChick3n my baby is a wriggler and I'm worried she's too young to be left alone in her room to sleep in a bed with no real sides to it.
