Right to buy home

Just bought my
childhood home
for my mum on the right
to buy scheme. Saw that it was going to end a year ago and just had to do it. We had a 60% discount and paid just over £100k . It has been successful. It’s probably one of my best accomplishments at 33 years old.

Do you have another home of your own? If you don't already own a property it's very generous of you to buy one for your mum before yourself!
Is it partly because you want to rent it out after she passes away? And hope she leaves it to you/your kids?

It was your mother who had the right to buy - not you

So you bent the rules to serve yourself

Now poor mum has absolutely no security in her home moving forward

Do you mean that your Mum bought the home with her own funds and you helped her through the process?
Or that you gave your Mum the money to buy the home?
Or that you bought the home and now own it, which doesn't sound right if it's under Right To Buy?

As your mum was obviously entitled to take advantage of RTB, then fair enough.

And thats why there are less local authority houses
I watched and listened to people bragging about doing the same , weirdly never we have bought parents house for them .Always I've bought the house .Then watched as they fought to keep the proceeds when said parent needed care or left parent floundering in a poorly maintained unsuitable house cos it was theirs and pressure was kept on parent to stay and struggle .

This has been going on for decades. Children who have decent earnings buying up the council houses their parents were given. After the parents nominally own them, they give them to dc. They are meant to pay rent, but they don’t. That suits everyone and works best if dc already have a house and the council tax on the ex council house is low so even if there’s a second home premium, it’s low. The parents lose control of the house but the dc make a lot of money.

Here, DD might be living in the house so it’s home too. I’ve seen this as well.
