Ovo energy price hike

Hello - can anyone help? Having issues with ovo energy. They came to read meter last year and after receiving a much higher bill than usual, we queried and they conceded their guy took down the wrong reading (they compared the reading to the one we subsequently took after we received said bill).

Thought things would go back to normal, but, kept getting emails saying now £1200 in debit etc! We queried and they said total should correct itself on the next bill. But didnt. After few mths of this, it then came down. But we then got email saying we are £496 in debit (always been hundreds in credit!), and that we did owe more than that, but they ‘had let us off’ with that extra amount as was their fault. but also apparently it’s ultimately our fault as we don’t send enough meter readings. We took the same amount of readings we always have, when in credit. No change in our energy usage either, same as previous.

I know all bills are going up but they are now wanting us to pay £463 a month (brought down from 490, them doing us a favour apparently) when we used to pay £189 before all this happened (3 bed semi, 3 people in household 2 adult n 1 child)

I know they want the £496 debit clearing but im
presuming our normal bills will resume when send more readings, so I don’t want to pay £463 a mth indefinitely - they won’t negotiate on

things would never have got to this if not for the initial wrong reading, which has been the catalyst! What can I do? They won’t back down.

I have just left OVO for Octopus and one of the reasons was that the way OVO bill you is a complete mystery and not even their contact centre staff could explain it satisfactorily. I was sending a monthly reading and paying monthly and it was fine but setting up with them was a nightmare.

You need to raise a formal complaint with them, and they need to investigate. And then, you need to escalate to the Ombudsman. Make a note of all your meter readings and make sure they match your bills.
