Uncle Bens Rice - Shrinkflation

Uncle Bens microwave rice I tend to buy on occasion the Mexican style one to go with chicken for a quick tea if I’m working late. I’ve bought 2 packets today and as I’ve put them in cupboard noticed they gone from 250g to 220g . The packets have stayed the same size, and this is in the last couple of weeks as I forgot I’d already bought 2 packs since Christmas.
Shrinkflation is getting ridiculous I’d rather the prices went up a bit as a packet will just stretch to 2 people with chicken, broccoli etc but now it’s going to be harder. I know the prices are going up as well 🙄

Yes, I've no idea why it's supposed to be fun to only get a smaller piece of chocolate or whatever.

I guess 'austerity size' doesn't hold the same attraction!

@Bjorkdidit - I will write to them, and I am certainly not part of the generation that has never experienced noticeable inflation

Food had been far too cheap for far too long, and people’s proportion of income spent on food is far far lower than it was in the 60’s / 70’s for example.

I don’t need a lecture on how the economy works , all the thread was doing was pointing out it’s yet another product affected, and in this case they’ve the packaging size identical so if you don’t actually read the packet you wouldn’t actually know.

Shrinkflation is a PITA for me

Three adults, one a hearty eater and two pickers, something that served 2 could easily serve the three of us but yep smaller sizes across the board makes that less likely now

Im very fortunate that I only work mornings so A - I have time to shop and B - I have time to cook, because if I was having to rely on convenience after a long day, we would have a pretty poor diet because of the extra costs leaving me short for the week.

However on an up note , our diets have improved considerably these past two years. As more and more food becomes just too expensive, we eat more and more from scratch and we fill up on veg

My favourite is when they keep the packaging the same size, you get it home and find the internal packaging has increased by 20% so you have a load less food. But because they haven’t changed the external packaging you are clueless - until you find you don’t have enough of what you need to make whatever it is you wanted.

The time it wastes pisses me right off. Just put “smaller product size” on the labeling and I won’t even care.

I weigh things in the supermarket. Prepacked foods often vary in weight.

The portion sizes marked on packaging are tiny.

Hearty Food Co. Curry Flavour Instant Noodles 100G - Tesco Groceries
a portion is half a pack

I get it OP. Tuna weight is also very variable across brands. If I buy something with the smaller size the cat doesn’t get to have any so he notices it too! I know you weren’t asking for alternatives but m&s own brand is surprisingly good value for such things. I buy the microwave whole grain rice and not been disappointed.
