Can I pay council back in instalments

I dropped and lost my house keys I tried to retrace my steps I didn’t even go far but I couldn’t see them anywhere and think a child might’ve taken them,
I phoned there’s council emergency out of hours as it’s Saturday and the bill is £200 as they had to do both doors but I am on universal credit.
Can I pay it back in instalments as it would be steep to pay it all at once

You'll need to ask the council.

You will need to ask them but I would think so yes.

It may vary by council. But I once owed the council (Scotland) around 900 quid. I paid them back 20 a month for years.

To answer your question, I'm not sure.

One thing I do know is that you need to speak to them ASAP to ask for a repayment plan. The other likely thing you will need to do, if they do accept a repayment plan, is to be honest about your income and expenditure so that you can both come up with a reasonable amount that needs to be paid to clear the debt.

If you have contents insurance, check to see if this sort of thing is covered.

I am getting a key safe so this doesn’t happen again. What a nightmare. When I phoned they said it would be £100 assuming one lock, then she asked if it was the other one as well which made it more expensive. And then also they have an extra charge for emergency call outs on the weekend. I’m waiting for the invoice but the lady on the phone said I have to wait for it in the post. So I don’t really know exactly how much it will be.
