Government funded energy grants

Can anyone reassure me about the 'government funded energy grant'? I have had loft insulation installed today by 3 guys who came all the way from London (really far as we are in Devon). We are also supposed to be having some new heating dials installed and thermostatic valves on the radiators (I don't really get how that improves energy efficiency?) I probably haven't done my due diligence, as my partner is now saying he's worried it's a scam and they're gonna end up charging us?! All I have is a text saying I have been approved for the energy grant (this is after someone surveying our house and they checked our details with UC). I've spoken to the guy on the phone a few times and my perimenipausal brain can't recall if I actually checked it was FREE. No email, no letter , nothing that seems 'official'. The website on the text is www.getafreeboiler.co.uk.
Although we hadn't been approved for the boiler as ours isn't old enough. Hopefully I'm just panicking over nothing. It all happened very fast and I am admittedly a dickhead for not checking more thoroughly before.

I can't help with the grant unfortunately, but the thermostatic valves help as you control the heating on a by radiator basis and set it lower, or off, by room if heat it is needed less.

In regards to the work being done, I wouldn't think you are being scammed. It would be really hard to get the money out of you when you haven't agreed to a cost. Presuming you have something in writing in some sort or the other, even if it was a scam (and I stress I don't think it is), they would have to take you to small claims, and the judge would kick it out.

Thanks loudbatperson, that's what I basically said to my partner, and what I hoped to be true! It's just weird when you get something for nothing isn't it, like it's too good to be true.
