40th birthday ideas on a budget

Need your ideas! My 40th is coming up this year. Originally planning a family holiday but sadly house repairs mean we can't afford it now. Have you done anything for your 40th on a budget that was still memorable with friends and family?

Whatever you do, pay for the food

I had a house party for my 50th and it was such fun. I actually had it catered by a local bakery that does catering and they came and set up all the food and it was a really reasonable price.

I think it might depend on the people around you as to what works best.

I did mine on a tight budget (house repairs needed whilst also on mat leave). I invited friends round to the house and made a vat of chilli and rice, with tortilla chips and sauces, plus birthday cake to share. What mattered to me was being with friends. For smaller milestone birthdays for my husband (who has me/cfs) we have asked friends if they would be okay with bringing something for a pot luck dinner together (no presents needed).

If we had birthdays in the warmer months i would definitely be doing a birthday picnic, day trip to the beach, or birthday walk (again dependent on who you wish to be with)

We had a budget wedding! Party at home with closest friends and family, gazebos in the garden, home-baked cake, buffet style food, big pot of chilli and rice. It was lovely. Except having to clear up afterwards🤣

It really depends on how many people you want to celebrate with?
