If you have kids - any club fees? Brownies/Cubs Subs? Dancing/Gym Fees? Netflix/Amazon Prime or any TV related subscriptions? Any insurances? This can cover Pet, Car, House,Contents, Health or dental insurances?
They do all add up and I can quite see why you need a list of them all.

Citrusandginger · 08/07/2024 18:09

I do mine in groups.

House; mortgage, council tax, life insurance for mortgage, buildings & contents insurance.

Cars; 1 x car loan, 2 x insurance, 1 x breakdown, 1 x warranty & breakdown, 2 x MOT, 2 x road tax + average monthly spend on fuel.

Dogs, insurance, flea & worming, food.

Utilities; gas, electric, water, broadband and phones.

Entertainment, sky, Netflix, Amazon, newspaper subscriptions, Audible, national trust & English Heritage.

Then I add the typical monthly supermarket spend and scare myself silly.

Bromptotoo · 08/07/2024 18:19

How essential is essential? I suggest dentist, definitely, optician certainly if you need glasses to drive, any other medical needs/prescription charges. Haircuts aren't essential but for many people are important

And then there are things to budget for because you will need them at some stage, even if you don't know when: new car tyres, new phone, because they don't last forever...

ScottBakula · 08/07/2024 20:28

I think most have been covered now but
Spotify
Charities
Magazines on line or paper.
Delivery fees for online shopping
Broadband / phone lines
Mobile phone.

Check your home insurance, does it cover things that you are paying for separately.

I had phone and glasses insurance for ages then realised they were both covered by my home insurance.

Moneysaving Expert have put together a complete list, along with what to do to 'get out of a muddle'.

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/money-help/

Also look through the last year's worth of account/card statements (or even better, download into a spreadsheet) to see where all your money has really been going.
