Anyone got a home water cooler dispenser?

The water where we are is awful and for handiness we just buy bottled but aside from the environmental aspect I am also spending a fortune on it and a filter jug would be a pain as we all drink a LOT of water. I was looking at these water dispensers earlier and then I realised you can also get one with a hot drinks maker too so that would essentially save on boiling the kettle of a mornig but has anyone got one? Are they useful or a bit of a swizz?

The Amazon reviews are dreadful
What's wrong with tap water?

Can you get a fridge with an inbuilt water filter ?

Psychoticbreak · 11/01/2024 07:33

Too much limescale in the tapwater here and a new fridge is not an expense I can afford right now!

Fair enough.
I think having a few fridge jug filters might be the answer so you have a shelf in the fridge or a section in the door storage dedicated just to water.
Keep things on rotation. It will soon be a habit.

We got one of these- if you have a big enough fridge, they are great. I didn't want a fridge with an inbuilt dispenser as have had issues with them before, and I don't like that you can't clean/descale them easily, so this is perfect.

Not sure if this an option but you can get a Quooker tap with a Cube. It gives you boiling, chilled still & chilled sparkling water. It comes with a filter so tastes good and it reduces the hardness of the water. They are pricy though.

I have a cube by Quooker , which dispenses chilled filtered water and chilled sparkling water.

I'm a big squash drinker so its lovely to have it with chilled filtered

We had one like in your OP when we lived abroad, as the tap water was literally not fit to drink.
The hot isn't hot enough for Tea, and rapidly runs out.
The chilled isn't chilled by the time the 3 or 4th person gets their drink in a row.

Have you looked at getting a filter put in on your main pipe to the kitchen sink?

Also, how easy would it be for you to get refils? We used to get a weekly delivery - we bought a book of vouchers, then every Thursday morning would put a voucher rolled up in the top f each empty bottle, and they would switch for a new one. We got through about 2 bottles a week (but only me there most of the day). I would definitely look into how easy it is to get the water before purchasing.

Roughly how much did this cost to install?

In dec 2022 the Quooker tap which was a special patinated brass was about 1560 , the cube was 1150.

My builder installed both for me.

You need a plug socket underneath your sink .
