Free gifts from Shein

PoorNoMore4FiveMinutes · 27/04/2023 09:37

I'm not looking for any comment on the ethics of using Shein.

When I placed my first order, they gave me free gifts. I'm looking at placing another order but so far, there's been no offer of freebies even though I've taken it to checkout, and had things sitting in my basket for a while.

Are they not given every time or is there any way to increase the liklihood of getting them? I have points, and I'm going to upload my reviews to get more points, but I thought the free gifts might be standard.

But what were these free 'gifts'?

Tat I'm assuming?

ThisSingleMama · 27/04/2023 13:25

Op?

custardbear · 27/04/2023 13:31

I only ordered from Shein once because the stuff I ordered was awful.
I got a free key ring which I really like and it's still ok 2 years later!

I appreciate that it’s not easy to afford clothes but whenever I hear this ‘I don’t want to talk about it’ type comment it reminds me of these people https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJmTPtH1/

ThisSingleMama · 27/04/2023 13:41

Oh come on

The quality is awful. You are better off paying double and getting it from a better quality store and having it last 6 times longer

Nachobowls · 27/04/2023 13:42

I’ve ordered from them and have never been given a free gift, even the first time I ordered. I’ve had things in my basket for ages and no free gift offer, didn’t realise it was a thing!

Fridaysgirl17 · 27/04/2023 13:45

To answer the question,no you don't get free gifts all the time, you get discount codes off so much spent & then add ons sometimes that are discounted, I've ordered a good few times & think got free gifts maybe once or twice.

ThisSingleMama · 27/04/2023 13:48

To order just to get a free key ring madness!

Who are these people? Are they those facebook sellers who sell tacky clothes live?

So you think the ethics of more expensive comapnies are better, do you? Have you had a look at the conditions Nike workers have? Abercrombie and Fitch? Adidas? Prada? Chanel? Fendi? Dior? Every single one of those has been linked to sub-human conditions, slave labour, subsistence wages etc etc. Oh, and let's not forget the ethical violations of TikTok which I notice you are happily supporting!

There is no possible way of living on an entirely ethical plane short of finding a deserted island, being entirely self-supporting and using no resources from the rest of the planet.

I try to be as principled as I can be, and I try to be aware of the choices that I make and their impacts. I criticise the companies, but I don't judge the people who buy from them - there are plenty of things that I know I buy that could be better, it's obviously also true about you. The OP has made it clear that they know the company isn't good for a variety of reasons, but they have made the same choice that you and I make whenever we buy anything - if there is no exploitation somewhere, there is also no profit. Welcome to capitalism.

I got a make up bag and one of those wet hair brushes that don't damage your hair. I'd been looking at them in shops and then Shein gave me a free one!

I'm not ordering just to get a free keyring but it would be nice if they throw a free gift in.

I'm ordering as I have a work conference and nothing suitable, as we work remotely the rest of the year so I wear leggings or sports tights and vests or a plain v neck shirt.

I just bought a few t-shirts actually (2 for 4.50), from a shop on a par with Primark, and the stuff from Shein is better quality.

I can't keep the stuff for years because I'm losing weight so these clothes won't fit me for very long, so then I'll sell them on FB or pass them on to someone.

Yes pretty much. I feel a bit sorry for them honestly, some are so young and naive. They get asked questions about why their clothes are so cheap and their responses are basically ‘umm let’s not think about it’.

SBHon · 28/04/2023 09:01

Gosh you’ve made quite a leap to assume I think that! No I don’t, quite the opposite. And no I don’t support or buy from those companies either.

There is no possible way of living on an entirely ethical plane short of finding a deserted island, being entirely self-supporting and using no resources from the rest of the planet.
I agree with you completely, if we all pull in generally the right direction though then that will help. Small actions add up. But starting a conversation by saying you’re outright ignoring the ethics is something else entirely.

PurBal · 28/04/2023 09:18

I ordered from Shein once in early 2020 (pre pandemic) for a hot weather holiday. I order about a dozen items. Due to quality I think 2 items were wearable and only 1 lasted a wash. I didn’t get any freebies, didn’t know that was a thing, maybe it’s to do with order value?

PortiasBiscuit · 28/04/2023 09:22

My work profile was hacked through my Shein sign on, our IT Director was NOT pleased!

TakeMyStrongHand · 28/04/2023 09:27

My daughter loves shein and orders regularly from there. So far everything has been great quality and lasted well.

I completely agree with PP that the more expensive brands are not more ethical. Zara and primark were made in the same factory and when it burned down, there were some serious ethical issues regarding payouts to family members of the deceased workers.

Re free gifts, it's not every time and I think only over a certain amount.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 28/04/2023 09:31

With Shein though it isn't just the workers conditions which are appalling but yes, also apply to other manufacturers.

It's the scale of the production. They release (or "drop" as The Kidz would say) the same number of new lines as the likes of Mango, Zara and H & M put together. That's A LOT of clothes. No one needs that much.

I've also heard that due to the enormous "hauls" customers regularly buy (because it's so cheap) when they get returns back it's too costly to process so much of it ends up straight in landfill.

shivawn · 28/04/2023 19:18

No they aren't there all the time, it's just an offer they run sometimes, maybe every couple months or so! I like the gifts, I normally try to go for a hairbrush if I can because I can never have enough hairbrushes! I got a brilliant eyebrow brush once too.

Saab03 · 21/11/2023 20:54

I had a link to choose 5 free gifts then it sent me a link to recommend a friend and if I do and they download a app I will get free gifts. I gave my friend the link via email it asked her to download the app then my gifts disappeared and it did the same to her. I think it's a con just to get people details and get they to order so you don't get anything. Wary on the downloaded app now hope they can't get info off the phone.

Fawbs89 · 21/11/2023 21:04

I order from shein a lot I like their aline sleeved dresses in the curve section. All the patterns and colours I love too. Some of my dresses I've had for a few years now with no issues at all.
