Who else wants the heating back on?

I know there will be lots of posters who just have it permanently set to 18 or whatever but after 2 mornings of waking up hot last week I turned mine off ... so near to putting it back on again - where's spring this year?

Who wants the heating on? Confused Never switched it off. Shockingly, and I know this is weird and random and odd, but me and DH put the heating on when it's cold... I know weird right. Shock

Sometimes we don't have it on in December, and sometimes we DO have it on in April and May. There is no hard and fast rule. This 'heating must only go on November, December, January, February' train of thought just baffles me. Just put it on when it's chilly. We have ours on right now, as we need to dry the washing and it's pissing down! (AND it's 7 degrees C.)

I turned mine off near the middle of March, the house retains enough heat to be warm enough without the heating on. Occasionally it'll get popped back on for an hour if its cold - but only done that a couple of times.

It makes a big difference to my weekly usage - this week was just £6 whereas January was using £50 a week

OnlyTheBravest · 23/04/2023 18:13

Mine has been on for around a hour per day during the evenings since mid March. As I get older my tolerance for cold air has decreased, I can afford it and it makes me a much more pleasant person to live with.

BooseysMom · 02/05/2023 02:20

It's chilly in the house and raining outside so I have to have the heating on to dry washing.

I'm worried that next month our energy bill will double as the government help stops. We had one extra month but have heard nothing about it for a while. They just said the prices are set to go down so it won't be as severe but who knows if this is true. Has anyone heard anything lately?

IconicKitty · 02/05/2023 07:48

Mine is off until the end of October at the earliest. It went off on 23rd March and while some days have been cold, by this point it's fine and the indoor temperature is above 18c without it.

I am in the south though, so appreciate it may be different in other parts of the UK.

The energy price guarantee has been extended to July at the moment.

RedRiverShoreV1isBest · 02/05/2023 07:54

It's been fairly mild here, temperature between about 18 and 19.5 in the house so it hasn't been on, ours is set at 18 most of the time, it looks like it will be a bit chilly the next few days so will be on in the evening probably

sanityisamyth · 02/05/2023 07:56

Mine never went on. Room a nice 14 degrees now with the window open so we're through the worst!

QueefQueen80s · 02/05/2023 09:03

Winter coat on again in Yorkshire 🥶

I fucking hate England. We should be compensated for living here. 6 months of cold, dark weather, lighter days but it’s now 23rd April and it’s damp, raining and cold. So sick of it.

I agree. 2nd of May and it’s grey and cold with a cool wind. Thought I’d be able to get rid of my thermals for work but no, we’re still wearing them and on the hot chocolates 😡

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2023 11:39

Yes clicked it on today

Last week said to dh not found on as May

It's chilly

Always said far better to
Put on for 20/30m and warm house up

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2023 11:41
  • going

I do usually go by weather but with prices 3 times as much have to be careful

Sure I don't usually have on in May but today I do

Ours has almost doubled from £60 to £111. It was completely paid by the government for the last few months so we've been lucky up to now.

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 02/05/2023 12:13

Mine kicks in at 17°, I cannot stand being cold, it makes me feel ill. We’ve been lighting the wood burner some evenings too.

Ilovetocrochet · 02/05/2023 12:40

Topseyt123 · 22/04/2023 01:27

I haven't turned it off. It's set at 18⁰ and just kicks in occasionally and for a short time.

Same here!

The heating is coming on in the morning for a couple of hours so must be below 18° but is not coming on in the evening although it feels cold enough.

I have quite bad arthritis which is more painful when it’s cold so I really don’t want to switch the heating off just yet - I’m still waiting for the promised heatwave!

Dungaree · 02/05/2023 12:58

I just put mine on for an hour when I notice I am cold and and always have done.

Cinderellasfeatherduster · 02/05/2023 12:59

We haven’t turned ours off! Not because we’re rich and like it warm but we’re on the edge of the mountains in Wales and it’s still cold enough to be uncomfortable in the morning! Sunshine please!

Cinderellasfeatherduster · 02/05/2023 13:00

There were a lot of exclamation marks in that post 🤔

gogohmm · 02/05/2023 13:01

Set at 18 for 90 mins in morning and 2.5 hours evening, usually doesn't click on in the evening though. Will turn it off soon

This! I actually got quite angry thinking about the fact that we won't have a spring this year, we will go straight to Summer for 14-16 weeks if lucky then it gets really cold again.

We seem to have lost Spring and Autumn which are my favourites! 😢

whirlyhead · 04/05/2023 21:06

Turned mine off in March and the house temperature wise is fine. I’ve had the windows open most days lately and at night. Just put the summer duvet on as we’re too warm at night. We’re in the north west.

never understand why so many people are anti terraced houses. The neighbours help keep the warmth in!

SirChenjins · 04/05/2023 21:35

I’ve just been out for a dog walk wearing my hat, gloves and big coat again. This is ridiculous - it’s fucking freezing here.
