Hi, So my name has been misspelt on my British gas bill since last august and a few poeple have said that that isnt 'me' that i can request a refund of what i have paid towards this account.

Has anyone done this? been successful?

TIA

If it’s clear that it is you then you will have to pay, otherwise everyone would just slightly misspell their name and not pay.
Oh that bill is for Jayne Smith, my name is Jane Smith!

Get real, of course it's you, you're even calling it "my bill". No refund due

At least god loves a trier 😂😂

LIZS · 23/03/2023 09:02

It is registered to your address and meter, I doubt this would work!

TheRookie · 23/03/2023 09:08

So you think you'll get a refund for 18 months worth of gas and electric because your name is spelt incorrectly? Surely it was you that input those details in the first place!!! 😂😂😂

Haha my dad did this many years ago with the water bill- his name was completely wrong - smith to Jones for example.
be refused to pay said it wasn’t him- he finally gave up when the threatened court

The people you know are idiots. No, you're not going to get a full refund for a misspelt name.

I had this with Scottish Power. I refused to pay until they sent me a bill with my correct name and address (both were wrong). It took them 4 years to correct it but they did in the end and I paid them (no interest added as it was all their fault). So you should be able to delay payment until they correct their mistakes, but won’t be able to get it reduced.

Would love to know if this works* 😅I've just seen my bill for the last month and anything's got to be worth a try to get out of paying that.

*I know it doesn't, BTW.

Haha, nice try.

If your employer spelt your name wrong on a payslip, would you give the money back?
