Could anyone make sense of this Octopus bill please?

First bill in my new home and I'm a bit puzzled.

Is this telling me that £67.88 has been charged for electric? That seems low to me? For a 3 bed house.

£330.74 was the pot of funds that was in the account and obviously that has been eaten into.

Could anyone make sense of this Octopus bill please?

Our electric is double that and more so that's a result!

Yes your electric is £67.88

Is your bill based on actual meter reads? The cost looks about right for a usage of 152 kWh :)

cakeorwine · 01/01/2023 10:02

Your electricity use was 152 kWh - so that's what you got charged in £

What do the bold numbers mean? Are they 'balances'?

cakeorwine · 01/01/2023 10:04

152 kWh is what we used in our flat this December.

But it depends on the devices you use, who's in the house etc

Is it after the government grant we all get, so £66 taken off?

I think the £66 was in the overall credit.

I think the number of beds isn't hugely relevant to electric usage - you could live in a 3 bed alone and only use one light most of the time and not many other appliances.

I live in a 3 bed with 5 people and my electric is 2.5 times that amount monthly - but I'm well aware we're heavy users. We have two teens that game, I WFH full time and we have an incontinent child so I generally do 20 loads of washing a week and use the tumble dryer daily. I've just accepted it is what it is 🤷🏻‍♀️

dementedpixie · 01/01/2023 10:37

Octopus applies the £66/67 to the account balance. Yes it looks like your electricity was £67.88. The bold numbers give the running total of the account balance.

I did my readings today and feel robbed as its so expensive (electricity £186 and gas £217) 😭

cakeorwine · 01/01/2023 10:38

In our house, the main electricity use is the electric shower and TV / computers with occasional washing machine use.

There are just 2 of us - it's been higher than usual in December as DS is on his PC more gaming revising over the school holidays.

Ilikewinter · 01/01/2023 10:39

Yes thats correct.....we also have 3 bed house and have been charged £74 for December

Calmdown14 · 01/01/2023 11:04

152kwh is just over 5kwh a day. That seems reasonable useage.

We are all electric so on a split tariff. I use about 4kwh of peak energy and then about 10 in off peak but this is for the heating and things you'll be doing on gas.

Do you have a gas or electric oven/hob and same with shower. If these are gas I'd expect electric use to be low.

If you click on the 'show workings' link in the corner it should go through it for you so will hopefully be clearer.

It just shows you how the balance has changed. They do send a bill by email that you can access on the app that shows a full breakdown of charges

Usage looks about right to me. We used 115kwh for just December, yours is a few days extra.
