Stairs in living room - heating the room.

I'm about to move house to a house that has a small porch, with a door straight in to the living room with the stairs in it. I have never lived in a house like this - always had a hallway. I keep thinking about how hard it will be to heat that room and how expensive it will be. I'm know plenty have houses like this, so I'm wondering how you've found it and how expensive it is trying to keep it warm?

We have something similar and I wouldn't buy a house with stairs in a room again as all the heat goes upstairs. All the noise goes upstairs too, which was a PITA when the kids were small.

We do have the option to close it off, but obviously I need to work that in to my budget. The door from the porch is in front of the stairs, so would be easy enough to partition and put in a living room door. It wouldn't create a hall, but it would solve heating and noise issues. I have a 6, 7 and 10 year old to suffer from 🙈

I would do that. Lots of people have.
Our stairs goes up from our dining room so we can't partition them off 😡

I live in the same type of house. Was never an issue whilst living alone but it's a pain the arse with someone else living here.

Never again, I dream of a huge hallway!

Depends what sort of house it is, I guess. We lived in a small 3 bed with stairs in the lounge. It was a modern new(ish) build. Never an issue with heat or noise, and we had 4 kids in there at one point.

We had an open plan 60s house, we partioned off for the noise and having visitors etc evem though it was a small house!!

Our previous house had the stairs in the living room. The landing would be lovely and warm and the living room cold.

Also, as others have said, noise travelled up the stairs.

We both agreed we would never live in a house like that again

I've had two houses like this. I simply put a stud wall up on the open side of the stairs with a curtain at the bottom on a rail. Cost me a few hundred quid and looks great. More wall space too. I hate stairs in the living room.

we lived in a house like this .. i wouldn't again because of the noise . keeping the downstairs warm you need to fully close all the bedroom and bathroom doors .

My friend lives in a house like this. She has a curtain at the bottom of the stairs.
