Hi, i was just wondering if the government vouchers of £66 are only for electric?
my aunt has a pre-paid meter and was under the impression she would get vouchers for the electric key and gas card but has only got it for the electric key.
is this correct?

That's. Correct. They are only for electricity.

Yes the money is for electric. She may be confused because I think one of the energy companies has allowed customers to transfer credit to their gas account, but the gov has paid the money to everyone's electricity by whichever means they pay

PauliesWalnuts · 16/12/2022 09:33

Apparently they give it via electricity as that's the easiest medium to distribute quicker - the vast majority of people have an electricity account of some form, whereas there are a fair few who aren't on mains gas. So it comes via your electricity account, but it's actually to cushion the blow of gas/electricity combined e.g. if you get help with your electricity then theoretically you've got more to spend on gas.

Barely touches the sides but I guess every little helps.

I have a prepayment meter, and my letter and voucher state that the voucher can be used for electricity or gas(EoN provide both utilities)

@Pothoswithasparkle @GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok oh wow thats good to know. Maybe she wasn't confused lol. Thanks so much!

You still only get one voucher per month though. If she thinks she gets it for gas and electric it sounds like she's expecting to get 2.

SpotlessMind88 · 16/12/2022 19:09

@WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie no she thought she could use the voucher on either gas or electric. I thought it was only electric. But seems to be either one

WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie · 16/12/2022 19:35

We have a prepayment meter for gas and electric bith with SSE. The voucher we had was for electricity but our local shops will let us put it on either.

Pothoswithasparkle · 16/12/2022 19:42

Than that won't work if they are different companies

Insaneinthemembraneee · 18/12/2022 18:33

I get my voucher sent to my email the Oct/Nov vouchers went on electricity & recently my Dec voucher went on my gas. With pre payment meters you can top up either one.
