Bank Switch Guide 2022

Banks are throwing money at people to sign up to them at the moment and switch a current account.

They usually take a few minutes of online form filling and then just waiting the bank takes care of the rest.

It’s a great way to help with the cost of living or extra money at Christmas if they pay early (like the Co-Op one appears to, almost the day after your switch is made by seeing others experiences)

If you already have a Halifax/Lloyds account usually you can open another one via the app/website very quickly and a card posted out in days which you can switch rather than switching your main account.

Likewise a Starling or Monzo account can be quickly opened to switch if required and I think they even give you the card details via the app before its delivered.

Some offers require Direct Debits, Pay-In requirements some don’t.

Co-OP £125 FREE via Friend Referral Bank Switch

Co-Op are offering £125 for switching a bank account to to them, and you must be referred by a friend to claim. But you can start the ball rolling instantly.

  • pop your switch details in, -‘d take a note of your switch date (you’ll need it shortly) once you’ve opened an account or had your details in the post (sort code/account number)

-head back to the link fill out the page about the bank switch with yours and your friend’s referral details to get £125 paid into your account.

First Direct - £175 FREE for switching and paying in £1000 (or just £20 for opening an account).

(To pay in £1000 you can literally just send say £200 back and forth 5 times)

How to get the £20 bonus:
Open an account and use mobile or online banking within three months. The £20 is then paid within the first four months.

How to get the £175 bonus:

Open a 1st Account and within three months switch another account into it, plus pay in £1,000+. (You must switch in a non-First Direct account; it can be an HSBC account, but only if it was opened before Jan 2019.) The £175 is then paid within 28 days. You can request the switch online or by phone.

Nationwide - £200 Free by opening a New FlexDirect Account.

If you’ve switched since August 21st 2021 you can’t claim this. This does require Direct Debits.

https://www.nationwide.co.uk/current-accounts/flexdirect/

Switch a non-Nationwide account to a new or existing FlexDirect account – note your switch must include 2+ direct debits and must be made online. The bonus is then paid within 10 days.

Moneysaving Expert often recommend this. I've done it a few times and have had money from HSBC, Nationwide, First Direct, Santander, M&S and Natwest at least.

Same. I have a coop account if anyone wants a switch to a bank that uses ethical investments. Nb you can’t have any accounts with the coop bank for the offer.

Do I need a referral to switch to Co op bank? Thank you

Karwomannghia · 13/12/2022 20:05

You have to open an account first and then fill in a form with your new bank details and those of the referee- there’s an online form.

First Direct also have a 7% regular saver max £300 a month and Principality have a 5% Christmas regular saver max £125 a month both very easy to set up. That'll be a nice bonus next year if you have the spare cash.

Is there anyone here who can refer me for opening an account with Co-Op? 😊
