How much does your central heating cost per hour?

Feck I’m cold. Just put an oil filled heater on in my living room, soon switched it off when the electric rose 10p in four minutes on the smart meter.

We reckon the central heating for the whole house costs just over £1 per hour. Is that a lot? How much is yours?

And is there a cheaper heating device that I could buy to heat just one room during the day, when I am the only one at home?

Any suggestions warmly welcomed!

How? Are you on a price fix or burning wood chopped from your own forest? I'm deeply envious whatever it is. Mine is around £1.20 an hour.

I worded it wrong @OhPeggySue - I should have said flat, rather than house. .

Set the thermostat to 17 for a whole day except overnight when it was 15, and left the heating on - obviously the boiler wasn’t running all day. That cost over £10! So that experiment is no more. 1 hr in the morning and 2 in the evening is about £6 and it’s not even bloody warm. If it was just me I’d switch the damn thing off altogether and get under my heated throw and put the electric fire on (78p/hr on full but doesn’t need to be on for long to get at least one room toasty). I just hate paying so much and still never actually being warm. Fucks me right off.

Well like most I have done extensive testing on the costs of heating , I have 3 bed semi built in the 40s , average insulation I’d say with drafty kitchen , boiler I believe is 28kw so not the biggest, I have tested leaving all day from 8am through to 11.30pm 17.5 degrees, cost £8.25
short blasts on evening , £5 for 3 hours
and everything in between, I now just use electric blow heater or oil filled 7fin rad both run 1000kwh so no more than 34p tops but the oil fill runs cheaper once up to speed , tested over 5 hour period averaged out at around 22p hour, the central heating will now only go on if the whole family are in all day otherwise it’s the electric heating as an when required
