Daily electricity cost

What is your daily cost of energy? Gas and electric?
Our smart meter is up the swanny so cannot see our daily use "in lights" as it were. So after submitting a reading two days ago, I have just now read the meter again.

We have used 4m3 of gas and 32 kwh of electric.
So over two days it is around 8.70 a day (including standing charge)

I read somewhere that a fiver a day is considered low usage. What is high or normal usage and is this about right for a family of 5? Semi detached. 1 wfh, 1 out at work and three teens.

(Sode question, it was taken at around 10am.on 9th and just now tonight - when is the standing charge added? Should I add a third day, and should individe the usage by 3? Yes, I should have done it at the same time but the other day was my day off and I have just got home!)

4 bed detached with 2 adults and 2 kids. Mine varies a bit. Can be anything from £2-£4 a day for electric depending on whether I've had the washing machine and dishwasher on much. Gas is about £1.50-£2 a day at the moment keeping the house at 17 degrees and daily showers.

I fixed last October, on a bloody good rate, and I've gone from using between £1.20 -£1.80 a day to over £5 per day, I live alone, I've still not put the heating on, I've stopped using the tumble dryer as that caused the 60p difference in last years rates, now I'm panicking :-( I can't afford this.

Two loads of washing,
12 minutes of tumble drier,
still cooking dinner.
30 minutes of heating

but it's 17 degrees so being as frugal as I can without feeling in the victorian era ( it's pretty grim at times 14 being the lowest to give an idea of careful were being ) ancient condenser boiler and immersion

Our heating and hot water are gas but everything else is electric. We are 5 people in a 19thC stone cottage, we've used 7.2kwh today so far according to the Loop app. Looks like it's normally between 7 and 14kwh depending on who is working from home.

no idea if this is a lot or a little

32kwh is extremely high OP, any hot tubs? Pool pumps? Couple of EVs?

Haha I wish!
Teens on PCs I think is doing it.

But, like i said it's from 10am on 9th to 8pm 11th, so maybe 3 days rather than 2, so about 11kwh a day? I think dd turned the oven on instead if using the air dryer so that may contribute.

When I wrote the OP my pdf hadnt loaded for the new readings and vs last year we are using half the amount if electricity same period - omg!
We are using more gas though. I am putting this down to a certain teenager not using the timer I have put in the shower Angry I am going to be all over that now!! I have also decided to turn the temp down in the boiler as that is the only thing that is gas.

In the summer we were using averaging 8kwh a day. Since the weather turned we've had the dehumidifier on a lot so our usage has gone up and it's between 11 and 13 now.

That's 2 adults, 2 kids. The electric shower is used 6-8 times a week, 1 adult WFH everyday and the other 2-3 times a week. Cooking is done using gas. Dishwasher and washing machine used everyday (30⁰) Useage increases more at the weekend because the kids use the TV/console a lot.

PCs can vary greatly in terms of wattage depending upon components. Is it a 'gaming' pc? They can be energy gobbling monsters.

Well insulated 3 bed semi, all lights LEDs, 2 adults one child - we are using £6 per day mid week and £8 on a sunday but we have an electric heat storage cooker (esse) which we are keeping on very low to dry washing etc. (no tumble drier) so your bill seems high to me if you don't have anything like that and aren't using a tumble drier.

anneofgreengablz · 12/11/2022 21:20

Just realised OP included gas - ours is elec only - we are on oil for heating so no idea how much we are spending there. I can only afford to half fill the tank this year...

crazy4cats · 13/11/2022 13:27

with 2 adults working from home we get through about 11 KWH electric per day, so 2 laptops runing all day then some TV / PS4 / gaming PC in the evening - OH also has a fish tank so that uses 1-2 KWH per day. If we add in a couple of loads of laundry and one tumble dry on a saturday it goes up to about 14 KWH

For gas we get through 12 KWH per day just heating hot water for 2 showers and washing up (we have a water storage tank) - a couple of hours heating sends that up to 36 KWH per day so come the cold weather I imagine we'll get through 50-60 KWH gas per day. We recently moved form a newbuild 3 bed semi and were only using 4000 KWH for the whole year so this increase in usage is annoying but the house was smaller and only had a combi boiler.

I do think we need a new boiler as the one in this house is 11 years old but we'll see what the engineer says when we have it serviced
