Energy bills haven't gone up??!

Just posting to see if anyone else has experienced similar with British Gas.

I was really worried about the bills going up as money's tight as it is. I've been checking my energy usage online at least twice a week and although it does vary there's no/very little difference on the days I've had the heating on for a few hours.

I was off sick all last week and had the heating on for at least 4 hours a day yet this isn't showing up at all and the bill is estimated roughly the same as last month (I have a smart meter).

Surely there's an error somewhere? Can they charge me for this later? I attempted to call them yesterday and was on hold for an hour then they hung up on me! Should I just leave it and hope for the best?

Do you mean your bill or your DD? A lot of people use the terms interchangeably it seems.

Hellocatshome · 02/11/2022 16:48

Also why is the bill estimated if you have a smart meter?

murasaki · 02/11/2022 19:08

I got the cheery news re my direct debit raise from them today, so it may be on its way

My BG smart meter has gone a bit mad and only registers readings after a few days. Is that the case for you?

BeyondMyWits · 02/11/2022 19:29

Do you have a fixed rate tariff? If so it won't increase til the end of the term. My BG tariff is fixed below the cap so am not expecting any increase at all.

CaveMum · 02/11/2022 19:31

If you are on a fixed rate tariff then your bills won’t change (barring an increase in usage) until that deal ends.

We came off our 2 year fixed deal yesterday, before our average daily usage was about £2.50-£3, our smart meter is currently showing £4.40 and the day’s not over yet 😩

British Gas is crap at keeping you up to date with useage. I can’t see my gas use on the app at all, my electric use only shows up after 3 days. You can’t submit a meter reading to get a snapshot, it’s rubbish. I’ll have to read my gas meter weekly to get an idea of my use through the winter.

Aposterhasnoname · 02/11/2022 19:56

the tariff on my smart meter is wrong, have you checked yours is right?

Daddyissuess · 03/11/2022 00:46

Not a DD and I didn't mean estimate Blush, just the amount my bill will be once they send it out. I'm on a standard variable BG tariff.

I don't have an actual screen so I just check the usage via the website

Thanks, I'll have a look at the tariff

I’m on BG prepayment smart meters for both E & G - I’ve not noticed any increases.
I agree with the BG app being useless though - it hardly ever shows the E credit and I’ve reported this many times, they finally admitted don’t trust the app just go off your smart meter.

Still no £66 credits applied (you can see payment history) - not sure what to do about that !

RelativePitch · 03/11/2022 11:42

Don't get me started with BG. I had My Energy online with them which was brilliant. Could accurately track my usage every day. They've moved me to another online platform. I no longer have any visibility on my usage and my gas meter has just stopped working. It's been on the same number for 5 days and no longer transmitting any data to the in house display. I'm getting gas for free apparently!

whatsthestory123 · 03/11/2022 21:56

hmm im with Eon next and haves a online account no smart meter just the normal

i take readings once a week and the gas tells me how much i have used approx £25 for 7 days but shows only £3.71 since the 15th October for electric

it seems like it has only charged me the standing charge for 1 week out of 2
my normal electric would be about £20 a week
