EoN - started account but no joy getting unit rate on tarrif - Help?

I needed to help someone set up an account with EoN as it was they who supplied the electric to the previous tenant. To my surprise, I couldn't call them but email them instead and 2.5 weeks later, they emailed back stating that I'd have to call them to get a quote. Eventually, got through after waiting an hour on the phone and was quoted £120pm. Asked for details of the tarrif for: standing charge (45.8p) and KWJ 44p day and 14p night and unit rate. They couldn't advise on the unit rate and put me on hold for another hour, then realised that they put me at the back of the queue then I was cut off!! Fuming I was.

Does anyone know what the unit rate is, or do I just accept the info that I'd asked for and pray for the rest, without my risking a heart attack when I find out the bill was way more than £120pm!!

This is all available online. Set up an account online?

Nachtvlinder · 20/10/2022 18:44

The account is already set up but not the tariff. I couldn't wait again to go through the palaver. I've asked the guy to get his friend to help as they've got more time to wait than I have.

If there is already an account set up to supply the electricity you should have an account number so you can set up an online account where you can see all that you need and give meter readings etc.
You can in fact do it all online. Dd set up an account for a new property she moved into, all online, with Eon recently.

Nachtvlinder · 20/10/2022 19:49

@ParbadosBeach The D/D has been set up online but I thought you'd have to agree to a tariff before it can be processed. The advisor on the phone couldn't even tell me what the unit rate was.

i'd ditch them as soon as i could.

i recently had to deal with them for a simple transaction (literally: i'm moving out, please process my account closure, here's the final reading) - months later still no competence shown.

they really have been a shower of shits.

absolutely appalling from start to finish. one of their customer service reps couldn't understand why i objected to their calculation that £40 for a single unit of electricity (home had been empty for a few weeks for sale) was clearly wrong. literally spent an hour on the phone waiting ot talk to her, got that idiot, went around in circles, asked to speak to her manager, got "cut off". right.

i've ended up opening up a complaint and the complaint handler is even thicker. i swear i'm talking to a computer some days when i chase the updates (via writing, i can't bear talking to those buffoons again).

if i were vulnerable or really neednig the money they'd happily just ignore me - but i'm not going away, EON if you're reading!

Do you have Economy 7?
Is this not the rates you've just quoted:

standing charge (45.8p) and KWJ 44p day and 14p night and unit rate

You will be on the default tariff as there aren't cheap fixes. If you don't have Economy 7 then you'd need to see what other options are

Hugasauras · 29/10/2022 17:31

Yes, that is the unit rate they told you.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 29/10/2022 17:33

You've put the price per kWh in your original post. I'm not sure what else you want to know

Is it not your standing charge?

PlutoCritter · 31/10/2022 15:46

Is it not your standing charge? no, that's a good guess but it was a special empty property tarriff with no standing charge.

Nachtvlinder · 31/10/2022 19:55

Hello everyone: Sorry, I didn't know that I asked for the unit price when I asked for KWH/J. Thanks for clarifying that matter for me. Trouble is, the damn advisor over the phone didn't understand what I had asked for and then proceeded to put me on hold for an hour to find out, only I was cut off afterwards!

It's just Kwh. Where are you getting Joules from? Maybe that's what confused them as Kwh/J is not the way unit prices would be shown
