Topping up prepayment meter before tomorrow's price increase

Is anyone else topping up a lot today? Martin Lewis has advised that energy companies will automatically apply the new rates, even if you have a healthy balance at today's cheaper rate, whilst other commentators have suggested that companies will honour your balance at the close of business today and will only charge today's rate until it is all used.🤔

I doubt many people on prepay meters have a healthy amount sitting around to put on their meters . I know I haven't .I expect many will be hoping there's no delay in the promised automatic first payment top up due next week so they can hang on to the last few quid they have til payday .

I topped up the other day, mainly because I was running out. The last time I topped up before then was £100 on the 31st of March, so the day before the last increase. I can confirm that until my top up this week I was paying the pre-April 1st rate for both standing charge and kWh, so have saved a considerable amount over the last 6 months. I don't know if it's the same for all suppliers. I am with Eon.

I haven't put as much on this time because we should be getting the first installment of the £400 soon so I'll be adding that. I don't want loads of my money tied up in the meter when I'll be getting ~£66 a month from Eon for the next 6 months, as well as maybe the Warm Home Discount.

I know, ours has just run out, and I'm debating whether to go on to emergency credit, go out now to top up five pounds, or use emergency cash reserve (£30) to make the credit last longer. If the first automatic payment is definitely in next week then I'll hang on to the cash, but I'm sick of having to think and weigh up like this. Do you know what date has been mentioned, please?

Oh, thank you! We are with Eon, too, so I think topping up now is sensible. I think the EoN payment can be for both gas and electric, so I will risk a cash top-up for electricity and hope to use the automatic payments mainly for gas
