Layering clothes? Best non-sweaty thermal layers?

Lots of threads mentioning thermals but which ones are best? Needed for adults and teens
Looking for non sweaty/itchy and not too expensive
What do they use in Scandinavia? Help!

M&S for thermal things.

I don’t know about Scandinavia. I think their houses are properly insulated.

Merino is what they wear in scandinavia. Seemingly none of them have sensitive skin. Cambridge Baby have some nice stuff some with silk in.

BAM do some really nice thermal baselayers

Wouldn't have thought of Bamboo as warm enough for a thermal top Positivelife.
I have 2 M and S thermal tops but although they are warm both ride up and end up scrunched around my waist with a cold back!

Ski base layers are toasty and not sweaty. Try mountain warehouse or similar

Uniqlo for HeatTech stuff. If I worked from home I'd invest in one of those things tht goes round your middle like a cummerbund but as I never ever sit still at work (primary teacher but don't tell anyone) I don't get cold.

Lived in Stockholm for a year and didn't wear any merino. Mind you, swore never to wear it again after leaving school as our orange school jumpers were so itchy and horrid.

I've always worn plain long sleeved black tops under everything in the winter, but nor I'm WFH and trying to reduce our heating this year, I have bought a couple of M&S thermal tops. Haven't road tested them, but the stripy ones feel heavier than the plain ones.

I'm also ordering a couple of thin restored cashmere tops to go between the thermal layer and the hoodies that I usually wear.

I use Jack Wolfskin thermal leggings which iirc have Merino in them. Either way, they don't cause me itching and they keep me warm. I have a couple of thermal tops from them and also m&s. The JW ones are much warmer and I bought them for a holiday in Lapland.

I have merino wool thermals, bought from Musto which is expensive but I’m sure other brands will be cheaper. Had mine for about 5//6 years.

Look at icebreaker thermals they come in different weights they even have summer weight tops for sport. When skiing I would usually go for 180 weight but when I went a particularly cold year (-15plus) had one 220 or 240 can’t remember but too hot for ‘normal’ winter skiing. Kids have had combination of mountain warehouse or icebreaker. Mountain warehouse have several ranges of thermals. In Sweden they have triple glazed windows and often underfloor heating..M&S thermals are also good although sometimes may not wick as well as other brands (cotton content) - that said a thermal vest under a school shirt from m&s is part of my plan for ds (13) this winter! Years ago had a pair of silk gloves for under winter mitts which sounds glam but wasn’t - point was they were like a base layer. This winter the key is going to be lots of thin layers. Dd (17) has not understood this yet..

Its dual layer with cotton on the inside and merino wool on the outside
