Council Tax Energy Rebate- are my council out of order?

Hi

I applied for the £150 rebate weeks ago and have been chasing it up, regularly, as the revenues department seem hopeless.

I have also, through an error on their behalf, accrued a large outstanding bill.

They have now informed me I will not be getting this £150 as it will come off my bill instead.

As this is supposed to be a payment to help with my energy bill can they do this??

The council tax rebate wasn't the energy rebate.

The energy rebate is going to the energy companies & is £400.00

The money has gone to pay a bill, which is better than not getting it at all.

Assuming you're liable to pay at least £150 per year of council tax, it doesn't make any difference really.

Your council tax will cost you £150 less than it otherwise would have done.

You therefore have £150 more that is available to pay towards your energy bills.

Are you able to pay your bills by direct debit? Makes life much easier as it all just happens automatically, no applications or chasing required.

As you have discovered, things get very messy, very quickly if you get behind with the council tax, because it's an absolute priority bill that you must keep up with, to avoid expensive enforcement action being taken very quickly.
