Anyone from N Ireland with pre-payment meters?

I live in Belfast and have SSE as my gas supplier and Budget Energy for electricity, both with meters topped up with a PAYG card.

One thing I have never been able to establish is whether you can cheat the price rise a bit by putting money on the meter prior to the tariff increase date.

I know for my gas this is 01 October, when it is to increase by almost a third.

Does loading the meter before that date mean that I will obtain the gas more cheaply than buying it after the 1/10, and does the same apply to Budget Electricity? I am thinking of adding four amounts of £49 (the max for one transaction) between now and 01 October - is this worth doing?
