Spend so much on getting house ready for winter, it cancels out any savings?

I’ve been mulling over what to do to be able to lower thermostat/have heating on less this winter and have come up with

  • curtains on our draughty back and front doors
  • large rug for our draughty floorboards in living room
  • fleeces for everyone
  • heated airer (no tumble drier and am quite reliant on radiators for drying in the winter)

But then I thought, hang on, that’ll all cost more than my extra heating bill?!

Is anyone else thinking the same?

At one stage we lived in a very, very cold house.

We wore hats indoors.

Socks in bed, flanelette pyjamas tucked in with an extra T-shirt underneath.

Invested in a 3-in-1 duvet which 15+ years later we still use daily.

Invested in sheepskin, boot-style slippers

very conscious of draughts, heating and ventilation everywhere

always kept down body warmers to hand for extra layers

fingerless gloves if needed

it wasn’t too bad? This was the way my parents and grandparents lived anyway.
