Car insurance - £40 a month hike?!

We’ve just had our quote thorough for car insurance. Up from £77 a month to £113! No change on our side, no claims or anything.

has this happened to anyone else?

Shop around, it's normal for current insurers to raise the price. Usually it's not quite so much as £40, but still, it pays to shop around.

never auto renew on insurance, do some shopping about on comparison sites, hopefully you’ll find a lower price, then go back to your current insurer with what is hopefully a better quote and they may or may not match it.

insurance companies are a set of chancers!

Car insurance seems to have gone down this year, do definitely shop around. My current insurer offered me £300 to renew, but a price comparison meant I moved and it's now £115/year. Much better!

Thanks all. We’re new to car ownership and definitely would shop around - just wondering what was normal!

As PP have said, most insurers increase their price for renewal, not really sure why.
Always worth getting fresh quote every year as it's always cheaper with a different insurance company.
However, I'm currently with RAC and they've surprisingly given me better quotes for the last couple of years so I've just stuck with them. But just bought a new car and it's more expensive with them so will be shopping around this year

I think this is very important! Such things cannot be cheap, because they cover all the expenses for the treatment and restoration of the car in the event of an Emergency!

Our home insurance nearly doubled. No claims (ever) and no increase in crime in our local area.

acuteanxiety · 01/09/2022 14:12

Happened to me so I changed providers

They just hiked it to treble what it was and expected I wouldn't check

I pay £40 a month now insurance has come right down as I hit 30 years old

Atmywitsend29 · 01/09/2022 14:16

I change insurers every year because there is always a company offering cheaper insurance. Shop around op :)

Always been the same cheap offer to get your business then year after no offers

just change
