Hi Im trying to keep my energy use down as I'm mega skint. Ive been keeping a close eye on my smart meter, it says i used £95 last month god knows how, it's just ds & i small 2 bed bungalow, heating 18-19 in day, 17.5 at night.
Anyway, checked this afternoon £8.50 this month gas & electric. An hour later (in which we were just playing orchard games, one light on, heating) it's jumped £54.45 this month!!!!!! It's saying Ive used £49 of gas WTAF??? I can't log in to the online account - site error. They are closed so can't call them. Anyone else had this issue? I'm now wondering if last months was an error too?

Help!

I have mine on 18 but only from 3pm to about 8pm, before that I try to be out or have a blanket if I'm sat down.

It's put on 13 at night.

Your temps are far too high

Maryann1975 · 03/01/2021 21:06

I didn’t know it was a thing to have the heating on overnight. Ours goes off at about 8.30 and comes on again at about 6.30 so the house is warm when we get up (except Dh, who leaves at 5, but he doesn’t mind the cold as much).

Can you put an extra blanket on your bed? When it’s really cold, I wear my dressing gown In bed too, but it’s not that often I do.

During the day, it’s between 17 and 20, depending who is here and how active we are. I had to turn it off today as we were all busy and it was boiling.

I’m very much in the category of put on a jumper and a pair of socks if you are cold.

Brinksmanship · 03/01/2021 21:07

Mine is on at 18 for 2 hours in the morning and 4 in the evening.

It goes off altogether at 10pm and isn’t on til 6.30am.

MistletoeandGin · 03/01/2021 21:08

Our heating is on 20 all day and 17 overnight so I don’t think yours is high OP. Being cold is miserable.
I’d give them a call tomorrow.

GrannieD · 03/01/2021 21:37

I noticed mine was showing £25.00 for today There is only me in the house and not really had the heating on much. I’m with Eon too so hopefully it’s an error but will keep an eye on it this week

myusernamewastakenbyme · 05/01/2021 12:59

No need to have heating on overnight....i wake up feeling stuffy and ill if one of my kids turns it on before im awake

GrannieD · 05/01/2021 16:26

I think I caught the arrow when wiping down work top showing the weekly figure and not the daily one!

itsgettingweird · 05/01/2021 16:45

My thermostat is currently at 20° which is high for me and ds but both working/studying from home.

It's not on all the time because once it hits 20 it switches off and then heats again when it drops.

Maybe an hour am, 2 evening and generally at night.

But it's cheaper to keep it constant than letting it dip 2-3 ° at night and then have to heat it back up to temperature again.

iwannascream · 05/01/2021 16:58

I put my heating on 24/7 in October and is set at 20/22 constantly, If it gets colder outside I usually put it up to 24/26 for a couple of hours, then just put back down. My monthly bill for gas on a pre-payment meter which is on the highest tariff is usually between £60 and £80. I've been doing this for a few years and have actually saved money, from previous years when it was on a timer. I hate being cold and do wear layers and have a nice warm fleece blanket for when i'm cuddled up watching tv.

Stealthynamechange · 05/01/2021 20:18

Thanks everyone.

Still unable to get throught to eon.

I discovered if you set thermostat to less than 16 the pressure goes in the boiler. Wake up to no heating or hot water 🤦‍♀️ big problem as boiler in loft, im scared of heights & cant do the needed acrobatics to get in.

Im keeping it as low as i can & will see how get on with eon!

Ours if off at night and on in the kitchen / living room during the day (but reasonably warm in those two places)
First person up in the morning turns it on!

MrsGrindah · 05/01/2021 20:33

Gosh I can’t believe how warm blooded some of you are! We have heating on 24/7 , 18 at night and 22/24 during the day and I still need to hug a hot water bottle at times!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 05/01/2021 22:08

E@MrsGrindah i would feel ill at those temps...mine is on 16/17 during the day and 18/19 in the evening and off completely during the night....my house at 22/24 would be like a sauna.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 06/01/2021 12:24

Do you get your boiler serviced annually?

I do check my pressure and it drops a bit in the summer but I can access the system easily and top it up.

Bleeding radiators if need be can help maybe?

thebestnamehere · 18/01/2021 09:34

Why do you stay with Eon

They are in the big 6. Go online and switch your rate today

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 18/01/2021 15:37

I mean... I'm with Eon because when I went online and switched my rate, it said Eon was the cheapest eco rate for my usage.
Also, previously I was with Tonik and they were small and went bust. But horses for courses etc.
Last time I rang Eon the guy was lovely and sorted my problem really quickly.

murbblurb · 25/01/2021 12:33

EoN currently cheapest on the comparison I ran today - apart from the 'two millenials in a London flat' parasites who you really shouldn't use.

Whattodo1610 · 25/01/2021 12:41

rummy ... no that’s a myth ....

OP (and anyone else who does) ... why do you have your heating on overnight? You’re in bed, with a duvet, you don’t need to pay for heating.

polkadotpixie · 25/01/2021 12:45

I'm surprised so many people think your settings are high OP. I have mine set at 17 at night and 23 in the day. I'd have it at 26 but DH won't let me

mizu · 25/01/2021 12:50

I guess it depends on what kind of property you live in - we are in a 2 bed flat and the heating in the day is around 18 or 19 or 20. I do not have it on all day. At night it is off. I usually turn it off early evening. In the morning the temp reads around 15 or 16 at the moment.

GooseberryJam · 25/01/2021 12:51

Eon are terrible. You can get nice people on the phone, but then the things they've promised you won't happen - like a direct debit payment being taken twice - do happen after all. Anything they can blame on you, they will. Try using their website contact form instead for now, but move suppliers is my advice.

MyDcAreMarvel · 25/01/2021 12:53

Mine is 25 in the day but turned off completely at night. I don’t really understand why you would need heat in your sleep?
