Lidl - what to buy

I’m moving to near a Lidl and I’m hoping to shop there to save some money on food. I’ll still also shop in Tesco or Sainsbury’s if required as I doubt Lidl has everything I need.

But I want to give it a go and see how much I can save!

So, can anyone recommend certain food or cleaning products from Lidl? Smile

Cleaning products and confectionery. Bakery is quite nice too. Fish- they use sustainable sources.

The deluxe salted butter is good. The cloudy apple juice. Small pack lunch orange/apple juice. Frozen hash browns & french fry chips. Fresh herbs and rocket are cheap. Olives & cooked meat. Actually I like most of their food - I did a shop in there the other day for £17 and then did a price comparison with Tesco and it came to £26 for exactly the same. I also like Aldi for certain bits it just trail and error.

Wine. They have some good offers on wine. Sometimes I get a couple of bottles to put away for Christmas.

Sundries tomatoes, olives, pickles, vegetables, butter and neopolitan wafer icecreams.

Their face wipes are good and I think they're only 39p a pack..I got some today

Their anti perspirant is good too.

The deluxe yoghurts my dd loves. Their Sicilian pasta sauce is one of my favourites. To be honest, I like nearly everything I get from there.

I have to walk away from their potato salad with fromage frais. It is a BIG tub and I am on my own but very greedy!!!

They've got a great range of pre school wooden toys in at the moment for Christmas.

Tiger loaf is amazing. Fish is cheaper than Sainsbury. Lots of their stuff is good.

I could do with a recommended wine though!

I shop in lidl regularly and save so much, they're meat is greatly priced especially their mince chicken and burgers, their fruit veg better price than tesco as is their ham cheese, I also use their formil 2in one liquid gel for my clothes less than £3 for bottle of 24 washes absolute bargain, I get a big shop full of stuff and normally no more than £120 and does me around gortn for me fiance 2kids and if need top up on bread fridge stuff just go back get less than £10 for what I need, cereal prices are very good too 40p box of cereal

I love their creamy full fat Greek yogurt, but really disliked their Serrano ham - greasy and tasteless. M&S Serrano is much better. That was a false economy as I could barely eat it.

AdriannaP · 05/11/2021 06:29

Nappies and baby wipes! So cheap

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/11/2021 06:05

i get their snack peppers

Good for basics.

But be alert and check against the Tesco club card price because not everything is cheaper.

Toilet rolls, but use the higher range, the normal one is not soft.

The Formil laundry detergent is a bit cheaper than Tesco own, but the smell makes me feel ill. So overscented it stinks the whole hour out when drying, and I can’t wear the clothes.

Cleaning products, wipes, bin liners etc all good value.

The jars of pasta sauce are good (the ‘deluxe’ range. Still cheaper than others and really nice).

Cereals like the fake special K with berries, very cheap but not as nice as Tesco own. But fine for teen fodder in this house.

Pasta, noodles, cous cous etc all cheaper.

Fruit and veg: some much cheaper and good, some v poor, and some goes off v quickly. Bagged salad: terrible.

Not cheaper if you get distracted by stuff not in your list.

EdgeOfTheSky · 08/11/2021 07:16

Biscuits very good, especially the fake choc HobNobs.(oaties), shortbread etc. Cheese crackers / oat biscuits.

Roselilly36 · 08/11/2021 07:29

We shop at Lidl regularly find it very good quality, and great prices, we use the app, for money off and coupons each week.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/11/2021 07:34

cheap macaroni
cheap brown sugar

i think the best bagged salads are probably waitrose
