Can Universal Credit take money from me?

Myself and husband applied for UC when we found out we were going to be on furlough as we had no idea how much income we would have. Have gone through the whole process and can see our monthly payments are £0 as we earn too much. It says on the payments page that our total deductions is ‑£1,753.67... does that mean I owe something or they can take that from me?

No.

*caveat: unless you've received that amount already from them and they've now realised you aren't entitled to it/are asking for it back.

erised13 · 03/06/2020 16:03

No, we haven't received any payments from them.

Sounds as though your income is too high to be eligible.

I'd ignore it, or if it's bothering you ring the helpline.

Are the deductions your furlough payments? If they haven't paid you anything then you cant owe anything

MuthaClucker · 03/06/2020 16:05

You can’t owe them if you’ve never had anything

dementedpixie · 03/06/2020 16:06

Would they not work out what you might receive and then deduct wages/savings from it to work out if you are due any payments?

hannah1992 · 03/06/2020 16:13

The 1753 figure is what they have deducted from what would have been your payment so therefore you’re not entitled to a payment. Say for instance you, your partner, any children and housing all totalled to an entitlement of 2000, they then deducted the 1753 this would have given you a payment of 247.

With you and your partner recieving a payment of 1753 it has topped the threshold so you won’t receive a payment from them
