Looking for a decent mobile phone for my 11 year old

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a decent mobile phone that I can get for my 11 year old daughter for Christmas? We both work and she will start secondary school next September so I think it's a good idea she has one. Her older brother has an iPhone 5 that I got refurbished from eBay but he wants a newer model this year.
I'm looking for something unlocked and if anyone knows a network that allows pay as you go top ups, that are reasonable, let me know. I am trying to avoid a contract but if that is my best bet then I will go for that.

We bought Dd 11 Samsung J3 (2017) and then a sim only contract from O2 at £13 a month , unlimited minutes and text 1GB data which is capped. Phone was £129.95 from John Lewis.

Our DC have the Xiaomi mi A1. It's around £130 new and I'm blown away with how good they are. I'm looking at the new model Xiaomi to replace my Samsung edge when i get round to it. We use ID mobile (car phone warehouse ownbrand) 30 day contract sims. You just pay the month and can stop from it rolling to next month at any point up to payment. Plans are from about £5.

Both my boys have the Samsung J6.

My youngest just got a Motorola e4 plus. Topped the charts of budget phones for last couple years and reduced to 99 in argos. Usually buying from John Lewis us better because if extra guarantee, they have the g6 play, huawei y7 and Samsung j6 all reduced.

If you buy from CEX you get a two year warranty. We've bought our two eldest their phones from there (one a 6, one an SE) and also things like iPods/x boxes and so on. You can buy in the shop but also on line. My daughters phone was a B grade but when it arrived there wasn't a mark on it.
