A new thread in case we are too tipsy (or in my case, asleep on the sofa) to remember later.

This is a friendly group where we chat all things money related and all things everything else related. Everyone welcome so settle in and let’s make 2018 the year we save money!

Spends today total £7.44. Paid with cash out of my purse. I'm not generally a coin counter, but did today! As it was split over the post office counter and sweety bit, and the coop, it was £2 something each time.

Dp had tea ready (was grumpy as we were a bit late), the chilli had mellowed, was nice. The chocolate buns with a blob of peanut butter inside were a hit for pudding with custard. Enough for school snacks tomorrow too. My old boy approves of left over custard too.

NSD both yesterday and today.

That's great, Need. I'm sure you are a much more adventurous cook than I am. Did your JO books inspire you to make the leap?

Fingers crossed for you, Unescorted. We really are blessed with the NHS.

Wolfcub · 04/01/2018 18:38

Cheminote try wilkos for a new feeder, their seed feeders are definitely less than £10.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/01/2018 18:43

I say buns too or fairy cakes. None of this cupcake malarkey.

£70 on pony club today, £50 deisel. No other spends this week.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/01/2018 18:46

WreckTangled · 04/01/2018 19:05

Wow seacow when I did our tree I got stuck and had to send dd next door for help BlushGrin

I think in the summer we're going to go to bath to see my sister and bil. It's £115 for two nights in the travelodge round the corner from them and we have £90 Christmas money so I think that would be a nice thing to spend it on.

Fluffy they were trying to get us to sign up to surveys earning £100+ for two hours Work Hmm

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/01/2018 19:13

Oh. I was expecting something more exciting.

Trolling isn't what it used to be.

Laska5772 · 04/01/2018 19:24

Finally reached the end. Have been readung for the last 3 days trying to catch up before i post.

Hello, mind if i join you all?
Quick outline of my goals,

  1. Buy less
  2. Declutter and organise
  3. Use up food. I am ashamed to admit i threw out half a bin liner of food out of the fridge this morning. It hadnt been done in a few weeks. But still. I refuse to continue this way.
  4. Save little and often.
  5. Make this wedding happen. Though after almost 6 years im not holding my breath.
  6. Get out more with the kids.
Im sure there is more but in terms of being frugal, these are the most relavent.
dementedma · 04/01/2018 19:34

refusing to do food shop until weekend so tonight's concoction was sliced potatoes and carrots, fried up onion, 3 rashers of bacon and some crumbled black pudding, all mixed together with tub cream cheese and half a tub of creme fraiche. topped with bits of grated cheese and bunged in oven with a hopeful prayer.
Dear lord it was delicious and teens DS has hoovered down two plates.
all leftovers. all good. another NSD.

SnugglySnerd · 04/01/2018 19:34

Yes I remember those Laska. I was never allowed one!

I can't believe DD is weaning already Christmas. Blw is great isn't it? Both DDs preferred it. Ds hasn't quite figured it out and prefers a spoon so the dts get a bit of a mixture.

I am so so tired. Ds has started waking in the night again. He was up for 3 and a half hours last night. We haven't had a good night yet in 2018!

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/01/2018 19:46

That sounds really nice Demented

we had those too Laska Grin

Love What's the other job like?.

Laska5772 · 04/01/2018 19:54

Its not mine sadly .. I was only allowed one very small one and i chose one with orange hair.. . I not sure why my parents were so against them.. maybe they were expensive.. but they were a real craze in our school ..

WreckTangled · 04/01/2018 19:57

I had loads of trolls like that! Privileged me Wink

LonelyOversharer · 04/01/2018 19:58

I never had a troll either. My mum hated crazes. I remember being told a firm NO when I wanted a cabbage patch kid, on balance they were very ugly. I always asked for a rabbit after that...never got one of those either. My cat brings me rabbits (except he generally eats thier heads).

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/01/2018 20:05

I never got any of the fad toys. Too poor.

DC now want riding lessons. Fml although I expected it. £20 per week for 30 mins for both.

needastrongone · 04/01/2018 20:11

Evening.

Nothing much to report here, been at work. Used last nights vegeree for lunch.

creme, health really but starting to look into the ethical side now too. Most recipes are very adaptable.

NSD

Tofu, spinach and cashew curry, adapted from the new JO book, who used paneer rather than tofu. I had tofu that needed using.

Wolfcub · 04/01/2018 20:11

No fad toys here either, I was only allowed boring educational stuff.

needastrongone · 04/01/2018 20:11

Sorry

Laska5772 · 04/01/2018 20:12

We didnt have money for fad toys either . although i suppose i didnt know that really as a kid . I never got a Stylophone either Sad .

Laska5772 · 04/01/2018 20:13

Why need ? it doesn't look like Sprouts again Grin

Laska5772 · 04/01/2018 20:13

using my plates again though i see..

needastrongone · 04/01/2018 20:14

Wow life, I pay £10 for 45 minutes to an hour. Have a look around and see if any private yards offer lessons rather than a riding school. That's where we go but the girl that teaches DD is the best instructor we've ever had, just has enough business not to need to advertise.

needastrongone · 04/01/2018 20:14

Ha - was supposed to post on my original post but iPad had a paddyGrin

needastrongone · 04/01/2018 20:15

We use the smaller ones though, do you? rather than the dinner plates. Makes portion sizes look massive when they are actually quite small.
