Why would I have stopped receiving a Tax Credit Exemption Certificate?

So I have a problem - I have a prescription and no spare cash to pay for it. Have just realised the last certificate I received expired October 2016.

I enquired as to why I have not received one since this date and was told I'm not eligible. I googled it and found that if you're on income support you don't get one! But my circumstances and income/benefits claimed have not changed since DS was born in Feb 2014.

Also found on the internet that I am fully entitled to help with NHS prescription/dental costs as I am on income support, but how do I go about getting this?! I'm pulling my hair out!

You don't need an exemption card if you're on IS, just tick the correct box on the back of the prescription. I never get asked for proof but you can bring your IS letter to show the chemist.
