  • I've name changed as I'm really embarrassed, I'm not wanting any offers of money etc just want advice, thank you -

Don't know where to start, I've started a new job so my tax credits have been stopped whilst they process my new claim but Im not getting paid from my job until 28th June.
I literally have no money, I've tried asking family etc but they struggle too.
I have used food banks but they have said I'm unable to any more as I've used them too much and they don't want me to become reliant :(
I can't afford school meals for my children.
I've tried for loans. I've got a few tins and pasta etc that I'm making for the children.
I wish I never went back to work again if I knew I'd be in this situation.
Is there any charities or any tips from anyone who's been in the same situation?
Please don't judge

So you need to get from here to June 28th, is that right?

What bills do you have to pay before then, and which can you defer?

What food do you have in the freezer / cupboard? Have you asked school if they can have dinners but you will pay for them next month?

Check if you can sign up for Milk and More deliveries: their basics can be a little more than Tesco, Lidl but you pay your account in arrears rather than in advance.

Have you spoken to your health visitor? They should be able to write a letter explaining to the food bank that this is your only option until your finances are in order (and how ridiculous they are being), they should also be able to provide milk & veg tokens. Have you tried asking friends if you can join for dinner so they arent lending money out? Do you have anything you can sell?

Needanotherusername · 12/06/2017 20:47

I've sold everything possible.
Some good points there thank you, I'll try sign up to that site.
Yes until 28th June. I have a few tins of fruit, pasta and a tin of tomatoes.
I pay gas/leccy On a meter which DC dad pays for

This is such a shit system! Well done for getting a job though its a shame its so hard to get claims processed.

Have you any clubcard points? Potential for a small overdraft?

Pumpkintopf · 12/06/2017 21:58

Op your kids should be eligible for free school meals? In addition if they are, your school would get additional funds that would pay for eg any trips they need to go on. Might possibly even pay for a breakfast/after school club if either of those would help you out.
Agree with pp food bank shouldn't turn you away. Also I think job centre can access hardship funds to get you over this gap while you're not earning.

Needanotherusername · 12/06/2017 22:23

thank you so much, ill speak to school and look at that site now.
No overdraft or clubcards :(

Can you contact your local council children's services team. They usually give out food parcels to those who are struggling.

Missdread · 13/06/2017 11:02

OP there is a scheme called Healthy Start which gives vouchers for fresh fruit and veg and milk for your children. I'm sure you'll be eligible even just for this month. Please go to your health visitor and ask about this. Asking for the school meals in advance is a good idea so your children have had a good hot meal at lunchtime. Please speak to your child's headteacher in confidence as I'm sure they would also be able to offer breakfast club. Wishing you the best of luck: it's so wrong that you are in this situation!

Needanotherusername · 13/06/2017 11:07

Ive had a voucher from social services a year ago for aldi and they wont issue another. Ive spoken to school and they are being good.
Sounds bad but I'm just wishing the time away until the end of June.

Can your dc dad contribute more until you get your claim sorted?

Needanotherusername · 16/06/2017 08:33

Apparently not, I have asked :( I'm just wishing the days away. It will soon be the 28th :)

I hope your new job goes well

Allofaflumble · 24/06/2017 01:00

The transition period is hell and extremely worrying. I nearly ended up being evicted when I got a job. Sending you best wishes.

Pumpkintopf · 26/06/2017 08:15

How's it going op?

AdoraBell · 26/06/2017 23:37

Have you managed to get anything sorted OP?

user1497212915 · 28/06/2017 21:10

AdoraBell · 20/07/2017 20:44

Thanks for that update.

Babyroobs · 23/07/2017 22:29

I don't understand why tax credits have stopped because you've changed your job unless it is a self employment check ??
