how much in credit can I let my gas metre go?

Both my gas and electric are on metres, over the summer months I barely use any gas as we have solar panels (not sure if I use them to the best) but I do get hot water.

I learnt the hard way last year if you don't top up your metre regularly when you finally do you get debt taken off so was wondering if I top up my gas over summer with say £5-£10 a week how much in credit could I let it get to, figured it would help out and keep the top up cost down over winter.

I put £100 a time on my Gas and Electric, so I imagine it's quite high
