Best way to negotiate with sky

Just about to go on mat leave which has prompted me to look again at all our outgoings. We currently pay 61 per month for sky (which to be fair includes quite a lot sky+hd, multi room, movies and f1) but I can't help feeling we could get a better deal.
I think we would happily lose the movies as we have Netflix anyway. Are we better off calling sky and saying we want to ditch movies and see how much reduction we get, or just go in saying we are going to cancel and see if we get a reduction on current package?
thanks!

We do this on a yearly basis, We ring up and say we want to cancel the whole thing. It is amazing how the amount we pay miraculously drops Wink

No say you want to cancel the whole thing! They'll pass you onto someone else and soon be begging you to stay!

HeyMicky · 05/10/2014 12:36

You need to say you will cancel something like 7 times. make sure you're transferred - there's a whole team dedicated to keeping customers with much deeper offers than you'll find elsewhere. Sky lose about 10 percent of their base annually so want to keep you

And tell them the reason your cancelling is due to money, I phoned and asked them to cancel multi room and hd.....I now only pay £2.50 a month for multiroom and they had good offers for other things but I still didn't take them up as we really don't watch movies or sports and wanted my bill taken down to the lowest it could go.

This threads good, sky don't let you pay upfront for line rental anymore though.

Thanks everyone! Some good advice. I will give it a go!

We reduced ours, but by reducing the package we get. They were certainly not up for any great deals to keep us.

I agree - I ask to cancel, and have actually cancelled the tv a couple of times in the last few years - within weeks they phone up and give a fab deal. ATM I have half price tv, free line line rental, movies, broadband and free uk calls for £32 a month.

Captainweasel · 25/10/2014 12:44

I'm looking into doing this. Is it better to call or use online chat feature?

We pay roughly £60 PCM. And it's getting ridiculous. We have both sports and movies. And the on demand features. We do watch a lot of tv but think that 60 is a lot.

Chrissy41 · 25/10/2014 13:33

doesn't matter - if you do online message the retentions team will call you back. Just tell them you can't afford it and take it from there.

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 25/10/2014 13:46

Call and cancel. If they call your bluff, stick with it. We have and as a pp said, had a call within a week or two offering an amazing deal!
