Second hand baby shoes?

DCs growing ridiculously quickly and I am happy to buy cheap/second hand clothes for them, and cheaper shoes for older DD but something is stopping me buying second hand shoes for 18 month old DS. Some Clark's shoes on eBay look in good nick but I'm not sure.

Oops, baby helping! Now that she is nearly 4 I mix buying Clark's with cheaper supermarket ones but when she was smaller I wanted her to have decent shoes and the ones we bought from eBay were brilliant. One pair were a bit scuffed but none were worn down or broken. They grow so fast at that age that the shoes only last a few months before they are outgrown. The ones that we did buy new we sold on afterwards.

I would do and have done in the past. Little ones feet grow so quickly that they hardly get worn anyway. Kids shoes can be so ridiculously expensive and you can get some good bargains on eBay for hardly worn shoes

I have done got measured in the shoe and then said oh I think I have some of that size at home from big sister. (Sometimes true sometimes not). I 'be also sold kids shoes on eBay there is quite a good market.

I wouldn't but I'm a podiatrist. Cheap is fine, it's the fit not the price tag.

I like my DC's to have 'good' shoes too but I got DD (toddler size 5) a pair of startrite shoes last weekend and paid £46. As with all toddlers she needs more than one pair of shoes each time as she outgrows everything at once! I was looking for a second pair and the woman in startrite advised me to go to mothercare for a cheaper everyday pair. I got the little bird navy buckle shoe for £15 . They look and feel much more expensive than they are and I feel her feet are well supported.

why do they need more than one pair? I have one pair for dd who is nearly two and wellies for the garden.

I'm interested that the pp podiatrist suggests cheaper rather than second hand. maybe we will do that next time.

My toddlers never had more than one pair of shoes at a time. I can't think of a situation when this was ever a problem. I suppose if money isn't an issue you might buy multiple pairs but even then it seems a waste.

I don't see a problem with second hand baby shoes at all - do you mean shoes for non walkers? - they won't have had a chance to get out of shape so seems like a good way to save a few £££. Local facebook selling pages round here always have some good bargains.

DD(2) has two or three pairs at a time . Autumn/winter shoes and boots then spring/summer leather shoes, sandals and canvas shoes.

Yes always have; frequently buy second hand shoes from charity shops for my DS (12) and myself. He plays sport at a top level so I don't think his footwear has ever hindered him (sport involves running ).

I only ever bought one pair of 'Clarks' type shoes, what a rip off.

No other country is as obsessed with childrens' footwear as the UK - it is incredibly effective marketing.

We use secondhand for our almost two year old, fit is more important than whether they are new. My Dp works at clarks so he fits them but its not hard, I can do it too.

Have you looked to see if there is a clarks outlet shop near you?

We get measured then come home ebay search sz New only eg boys 8.5G as lots people buy up any size in sales to sell on at profit so you always get a better deal I tend to pay 10-15 pound a pair yeah last season but I don't care.

Personally I always buy new but usually only one pair per size, plus cheap supermarket wellies. I also wear out shoes unevenly, everyone is different and leather shoes do mould to your feet somewhat. If I couldn't afford Clark's new (I usually get them in sale or from Brentano) then I would get them somewhere cheaper but still new.

I've had her feet measured at clarks and then actively sort out that style/size on ebay. So far, I've bought 3 pairs of shoes, all immaculate, no signs of wear. The most I paid was £12 plus postage.

I wouldn't buy a pair that had been massively worn though.

I buy in the sale or at Clarks outlet. There are usually some for £5-£7 in the sale and they will fit them in the Clark's shop.
I buy several different sizes and widths. If any don't fit I sell on facebook. I have just sold four pairs that were too wide on facebook for £10 a pair so it's they pay for themselves.

My DC tend to have a pair of shoes, a pair of trainers, willies or walking boots and a pair of slippers.

only the boys have willies! they all have wellies though!
