Credit Card application asks for Work place details, will they contact my employer?

Im balance transferring to another account which is 0% and the application asks for employer details, although Ive got nothing to hide I dont feel comfortable my employer knowing!

I just applied for a card, they also wanted employer details but I assumed it was just to check affordability, ie you have a job. Don't know if they contacted them.

I think it's just to check you're telling the truth about your employment.. I doubt they ring up and announce themselves.

It's so they can do an attachment of earnings order if you don't pay. They can get a payment direct from your salary at a percentage of your wage.

I'm a debt collector. We ring people at work if they don't pay. Invariably we get abuse for 'looking them up' at work. Under the data protection act you can't ask for information that isn't needed. If they ask they will have a use for it.
