Which is better aldi or lidl?

That's it really, I don't have either near me, so wondering which is the better one to make the journey to. Is it significantly better than tesco, which I can walk to.

Lidl is very different to Tesco. You can't guarantee what you'll get in there, it's not the same from week to week. BUT what you can get is sooooo much cheaper.

Our local one currently has loads of the Deluxe range, and the Christmas stuff which is wonderfully German

Haven't tried an Aldi, must do that.

Lidl has more brands you will recognise. Aldi has (IMO) wider range of stuff. I can do weekly shop in Aldi and not need to go anywhere else. I find fab things in lidl but need to top up elsewhere.

I haven't tried a Lidl but posters on here say that the natural yogurt is amazing so I really want to go for that alone!

They'r quite different. Lidl is more where you'd go for specific stuff (try and test or find older threads on here). Aldi is general shopping and really good. I'm in Ireland and they do a lot of irish products - I would do most of my shopping in Aldi and go to Lidl for the same few things (squash, bread, veg, dw tablets, prawns...)
Better value than Tesco for sure. (but I do shop in all three)

yyy to needing to top up elsewhere. I do a shop there and then go elsewhere for what is still on the list.

Don't try the cereal bars, that's the only thing I've found which is a real No.

I have been a loyal aldi shopper for years but ow I find myself in lidl more than aldi.

Lidl are better for brands.. Beans, ketchup etc.. I don't see brands in aldi. Also love the muesli, salmon, better selection of fruit and veg( in my store).

You can buy the newspaper in lidl so saves me going elsewhere. I love th cleaning products in lidl.. Oven cleaner, cream cleaner etc.

I do still like aldi but only go once a month.. I love gnocchi, passatta, the steam veg packs in freezer section, natural yoghurt, decaf coffee, cauliflower cheese, sweet chilli rice cakes.

In my own opinion, aldi is probably cheaper so what I do is alternate so I get two bags of muesli at a time, then go to tesco or lidl the next week. In terms of tesco value.. They are cheaper but lidl better quality.

Aldi has a much bigger range of stuff (& just more stuff) IME, so much better for doing the bulk of a normal household weekly shop, esp produce, meat & dairy.

Lidl does have more branded stuff, eg Branston beans & Charmin loo rolls.

Always worth visiting both if you can

I don't find Lidl that much cheaper than shopping carefully in Tesco, TBH, but I like the food better. I love the 'Aisle of delights' down the middle, where you find all sorts of random things. We've had loads of crap useful stuff from there.

Aldi is considerably cheaper than Tesco, shopping carefully or otherwise

& Aldi standard products are probably better than Tesco own-label, & certainly way better than Tesco Value

Op would alternate weekly shopping between stores and see where you prefer

Lidl, because there's one close to home and one close to work. I'd be using a lot more petrol to go to Aldi, and if I was going to do that, I'd be feeling extravagant, so woukd treat myself to a Waitrose trip instead.

Obviously this is entirely unhelpful to you, unless you happen to live in my street or somewhere with similar supermarket distribution.

I have both & prefer Aldi, it's cheaper for one thing.

The stollen cake is in at Lidl though and I am a sucker for stollen cake.

Aldis own brand personal care & household cleaners are not tested on animals and that swings it for me.

Aldi aldi aldi all the way. Do my whole weekly shop there, occasionally popping to tesco's for odd things they don't have (vanilla essence etc) and sometimes get packed lunch stuff from tesco when its on BOGOF, but I love love love Aldi, it's simple, quick, it's worth getting to know which things you like and which you don't - e.g. I buy my washing liquid there but still prefer branded fabric conditioner so get that elsewhere.

Lidl, however, has a fresh bakery nom nom nom !!

Aldi. The fruit and veg is great, as is the fish and meat, and the household products. But as others are said, there are v few branded products.

lidl is cheaper than waitrose, but I actually find that some items can be more than Tesco, you have to shop really carefully. I've been caught out a few times paying over the odds on lidl.

I don't have an Aldi near me, so can't compare. But my Lidl shop is about 60% of what it would be in Tesco, so it is well worth going there for me.

To give you an idea:

I buy meat,veg,fruit,tins, dairy,sandwich stuff, pasta, bread and cereals there, plus all laundry and cleaning products . I buy lidl's own staple brands which ime are just as good as any of the supermarkets but much cheaper

But there are things I can't get so I always end up doing a top in Sainsburys for things like fresh ginger, harissa, thai green curry paste, fresh fish (only do a few frozen things like prawns), oxtail and game etc

This year they have started doing coconut milk and chickpeas at my local Lidl which were always on my top up list, so hopefully eventually they'll sell everything!

The only real problem I have is their own dog meat is not very nice and the only branded versions they sell such as Bakers and Butchers are both owned by Nestle, who we boycott, so I have to buy dog food tins a hundred at a go and get it delivered!

It really is a LOT cheaper for the basics, though.

Another vote here for aldi. Like valiumredhead I save about 50 quid a week compared to morrisons. The food is really good too. We go to lidl sometimes but just for a top up.. I'm lucky to have 2 close by and they are building a third.

Aldi all the way! I love their washing powder.. at about £3 for a huge box it's worth going there just for that! It's comparable to Bold which is about £12 for the same size box!

Lidl for me.

Not sure if our Aldi is different to everyone else's but I find it good for quite junky food where I can much much more fresh fruit and veg and plain meat (as in not the easy to cook witth sauce etc) in Lidl.

They've just really mucked their nappies up though which is annoying.

Aldi washing powder and their liquid is fantastic and SO cheap. I feel so smug when I get it, it's like flicking the V's at Tesco

We're recent converts to aldi, agree their laundry stuff is really good & actually a 'which best buy' :)

Aldi for me more choice and cheaper,

I went into lidl for the first time this week and wasn't impressed their coffee was hideous.

I do the odd top up at sainsburys. But 99% at aldi,

I buy the Scottish lean steak mince, far better than Tesco organic, which I bought again last week, (poured the fat off it) wherease the Lidl stuff is virtually fat free.

I dont normally buy steaks etc but inadvertantly bought a ribeye steak from Lidl that was two weeks ago, I have been and bought it 4 more times since, much better than a steak I had at a local restaurant this week. I generally spend about £70 a week for three of us, I meal plan and therefore dont random shop when I go, but I do like the diversity of Lidl, I mean where else can you buy a petrol generator alongside your broccolli?!

Aldi lover here. Ended up in Asda this week and spent £40 more than I usually do in Aldi.
