It's worth claiming back train ticket costs due to delays

I commute to work and get a monthly season ticket. Have never bothered to make claims when my trains have been delayed - partly due to laziness and partly because the companies don't really publicise it.

Was recently delayed and got £5 back, which is the cost of a single ticket. I also have two other claims in progress.

I've just found out I can make applications online so it's even easier.

I do it on principal as the cost of public transports in this country is ridiculous for the service you get.

This isn't a dig at the staff, who are generally helpful, but I just wanted to remind everyone to claim if you can.

I used to do this all the time when I lived in London and got the tube and it was definitely worth it - a few times, I saved up all of my vouchers until they added up to the cost of a monthly ticket; didn't even take that long to get that amount as I got into the habit of claiming for every single delay.

I had a yearly ticket and claimed for every single delay I was on. Train had to be 30 mins delayed to qualify. Some days I had morning and evening delays. Over a year I had over £400 in vouchers which I used towards my next years ticket. Brilliant! Smile

Feels good, doesn't it? I had a bloke at the station once have a go at me for paying with my (many) vouchers, to which I replied "It's your system, mate".

Also, top tip: a friend of mine used to claim for every delay she heard reported on the tube. She bought monthly tickets so there was no way they could have known that she wasn't on the particular train that was delayed. She made an absolute mint.
