Sky tv costing too much. Need to make a saving.

So, just had yet another letter from Sky saying they are going to put the bill up by £1.50 in September. So annoying. I pay about £22 a month for sky, but a, questioning whether I need it. I don't want to start any new contracts etc or pay for one of those fancy freesat boxes right now. What can I do? Basically I LOVE sky pause and rewind and also recording programmes. Is there anyway I can still do all that but not have to pay £22 a month? I suppose I should just call them and explain my woes and hope they have a solution. anyone had positive experiences with them? I hate phone calls.

I have a you view player and it does all of that. Bought new from a shop the box is £300, but you can sign up with bt a d get one for £50 with no tv charges month to month.

Ring sky and tell the. You are leaving due to their extortionate price hike and they will offer you 6 months at half price.

Get rid of Sky completely. They'll just switch off the paid channels leaving you with the Freesat.
You can pay to have the pause/record functions still. I think it's £10 a month.

Sky don't own the monopoly of recording TV programmes you know.

We have never had Sky and don't want it. We have a hard disk drive to record programmes on and it does everything that a Sky box does except access Sky programmes. You can buy PVRs from under £100. It is a one off cost - there is no monthly fee.

yes, buy a recorder box for £100 or so. Freeview if it works for you, freesat if it doesn't. £12 a month for TV licence. end of.

Talk Talk are giving away the 300.00 box free at the moment and you can choose your Sky boosts with no contract every month, the boosts start at a fiver a month.

We have just ditched Sky and switched over to TT. The big entertainment Sky package is only 15.00 on talk talk

We had a freeview box that could record, rewind, pause, etc. we bought it from argos about 2.5yrs ago for about £120. I'm sure there is more on the market now; some with HD channels too.

We changed from Sky to Freesat 3 months ago for around £150. That's three months of Sky payments so now we have free telly.

There is bugger all on but, as we could never find anything to watch on Sky either, we don't mind as it's now free.

Did I mention that it's free?

We bought a freesat box at Christmas for about £120 I think. It's great and pays for itself in a few months, you can record 2 channels and watch a third too :-). Don't miss sky at all.

I had this problem.. Rang Sky (I'm out of contract period) with full intention of leaving and they offered me a year at almost half price. I now pay £12.70 per month, going up to £14 or so once price hikes come in, for the Entertainment package I had before. When I first joined Sky and had the income to support it, I was paying £90 for phone, bb and TV (now TV only but at £12.70 plus £22.50 to Virgin for phone and superfast bb I can't complain). Just ring and see, they will definitely offer a lower bill under the guide of 'seeing what they can do for you'. Make sure you're not recontracted though.

we rang to cancel as we were moving house to somewhere hopefully with a better signal and a few days later they rang back with half price. I said no and that I would have to check with dh (a lie) and then they offered me 6 months totally free with sports and movies no included. what's not to like!

I'm glad you started this thread, OP. I'm with Sky and have TV (basic package only), landline and broadband with them and it's so expensive. I've been thinking about cancelling for a few months now but the thought of changing not only my TV but my phone and Internet to new suppliers brings me out in a cold sweat.

We have never had Sky as we don't watch much tv. I can honestly say I don't think we have missed anything.

I tried to get a deal out of Sky last week as my bill is £100 a month including landline and broadband and got £5 a month off !

In the end though I have a lot of add ons which we use and I have had great internet service whereas Talk Talk was cheaper but we were forever losing connection etc. For me its worth it and better the devil I know

I recently did a 'free skymovies for 2 weeks deal' with Sky and at the end of it had to phone up to cancel it. On phoning I told them I didn't want to continue with the package despite really enjoying it. After telling them sky movies was too expensive to commit to the nice man on the phone offered it to me 70% off! I told him this was still too much ontop of the package I already had so he gave me an extra 10% off my origional package. It is ALWAYS worth phoning up BLUFFING saying you want to reduce your package or are thinking about moving to a provider due to cost. doesnt hurt to flirt
