Tax credit claim - what year do they base it on?

Basically as in the title - DH is unemployed since yesterday. He has an appointment at the job centre this afternoon and is also going to apply for tax credits. Last year he earned too much to claim tax credits. Will they calculate his eligibility based on what he earned last year (which seems ridiculous as we need it now when we DON'T have any money - but I think I read somewhere this is the case?) or on what he's earning now?

Thanks Smile

On-going claims are based on the previous year income, but you will need to estimate this years for a new claim I believe.

That's what happened when I made a claim for the first time in similar circs. to you Smile

Thanks. So technically if we went to them and said, we've earned £xx from April 2013 and estimate only JSA from now on we should be entitled to receive child tax credit?
