Had hoped to get away with no holiday this year, but sons are realising most people are doing something over the big break. Just wondered if there were any good websites/ways to allow a very very cheap seaside getaway for us, even for 2 nights? Tell me how you did it! I just looked at caravan websites, they're a fortune for 3 nights even. thanks

Have a look here: www.ukcaravans4hire.com/to-let-userid988.html they have 1 week still available in the hols for August - is £325 for the week and looks fab. There are other caravans on private land on that site too, which seems a cheaper way of doing it than on a site

huddyblell - you've just reminded me of one of the best holidays we ever had when we were kids. It was in a tiny caravan in a farmer's field. No site facilities - all very basic, but near a beach. The farmer's wife let us help feed the lambs and they came and knocked with their horns when they wanted a bottle. We spent hours on the beach. It must have been a really cheap holiday but better in our memories than all of the trails round Europe looking at culcha.

I used to use The Sun 9.50 holidays. It's was 48 but you could take 4. The caravan sites were amazing with kids clubs and indoor pools and evening entertainment. I used to save 2p pieces all year for the arcades. I would take food with me and cook each night to save cash. I would take a slow cooker and load it in the morning and have a meal ready at night. A good cooked breaky and packed lunch kept cost down. I could do the whole thing for a few hundred . I once took him to butlins for 43 pounds half board for the weekend just by calling a few days before and asking what they had. It turned out it was a line dancing weekend and we were they only people there not line dancing but we had fun. We went abroad one year with The Sun. Bit more stressful and not so good as the UK breaks.
