TK Maxx - utter rubbish or are there bargins to be found?

I have yet to see anything thats worth buying. Some very odd designer labels and much looks like it could come from a street market.

Homeware again some odd brands and even wonder if the branded stuff is good value.

Anyone seen something worth buying?

I hate TK Maxx. Utter crap, I can never find anything in there, yet people bang on about how great it is and what value for money?
Really?

I bought a gorgeous Ralph Lauren table cloth in home sense (TKmaxx, home stuff only though) and have bought some nice cushions. The clothes stuff makes me a bit stabby though. If I wanted to wade through piles of weird ill-fitting stuff I'd go to a jumble sale.
Occasionally some good stuff in the childrenswear.

Bought 2 childrens school coats for half the price they would have been amongst other things. I like having a rummage

You have to be very lucky to be honest. I used to go there once a week, and I've only bought clothes on 2 occasions.

I once found a Speedo swimming costume, was £35, now £4.50

I once found a dress (I had a wedding in a few weeks), was £75, now £13

I'm pretty useless at it - but had DH tagging along last time and set him to it and he emerged with a lovely All Saints wool sheath dress, it was gorgeous! And priced down from £110 to £35! Was amazed and delighted - at DH and TK!

I have a Milly skirt. Usually £250 but cost me £40
A dolce and gabanna dress £800 but cost me £80
A dolce and gabanna coat £850 but cost £120
A Giambattista Valli coat £950 but cost £80
Two Pieces of Guess leather luggage. Cost about £500 but I got both for £90.
Super dry jumper for ds for £25
Ralph Lauren jumper for DD for £20

In fairness I live in town so I can nip in early if I fancy a rummage.
I can't stand it once it is busy.

You can find genuine bargains but you need to go a lot and be prepared to rummage.

I find it depends on the branch - some are good others are awful!

Love TK Maxx! There is a lot of rubbish there and a lot of brands I have never heard of so you have to get lucky to find the decent stuff and not be tempted to buy stuff you don't really need just because it's discounted!

I also agree that some branches seem to have better stock than others. I have found good bargains in the Kensington High Street, Clapham Junction and Nottingham and Birmingham branches as well as the one in London near Bank tube station.

My bargains to date have included:

I think TK Maxx is especially good for sports gear and I buy all my sports kit there and the home sections often have nice candles or stuff that makes good pressies. The branch near Bank in London also stocks Ugg boots at a slight discount ( although I still think they are too expensive and won't buy them!)

I think the trick is to go regularly as they get new stock all the time and be prepared to rummage! Sometimes I go and don't find anything but I do quite often find a bargain. Good luck!

I agree with previous points: you need to spend a lot of time rummaging and trying things on (sizing is really variable). Some of the brands/products are crap, but not all. I got DP a lovely Calvin Klein shirt from there for his birthday, I think it was £20 and it was very classic and simple. One of the common problems I have with TK Max is that you see something, it looks great, but on closer inspection there is a bizarre detail (eg ruffle/neckline/logo/pattern) that renders it crap. Or the fit is just bizarre. Grrr.

I find TK Maxx to be very random, and you have to be prepared to spend hours of (possible fruitless) rummaging. So I go in there very rarely.

Although I did find a stack of great Denby crockery in the same colour range I've got, at super cheap prices, last year.

I find them great for everything but clothes. I love the towels and bedding. Different stores seem to vary wildly. I'm in London so can go to various branches and the difference is very noticeable.

I know what you mean but I was in Boots recently looking at posh make.up brushes. A lovely lady told me to go to TK Maxx where I not them for less than a third of the price to anonymous lady

I can't face the rummage through ladies clothes but toys are often a bargain. Also branded tshirts for teen nephews. Best bargain was a good quality ski jacket & salopettes for DS & the jacket lasted 2 years of school wear and tear.

I like TK Maxx, but you have to be a bit of a regular. Depends what you want but I normally find what I'm looking for. I like the way that there are so many brands and styles that there is a really wide choice from quite mumsy to very teenage, rather than traipsing round loads of different shops. 75% of the womens clothing is bizarre though! If you go in looking for say a vase or baking tray or pair of jeans, there's bound to be something. If they lack anything it's plain basics like workwear - it's mostly too designer-detailed.

Lovely petrol blue TOAST cardigan, shetland wool. £115 down to £15. Although ridiculously priced to start with. Usually can't be bothered to rake through everything though.

Bed sheets are cheap and great quality

Kids clothes also very good, as are grobags if you have little ones.

Just bought dd1 a Trespass coat for £20 reduced from £70 which will last her and dd2 forever.

Also live in hush puppies and they are usually at least half price.

The only things I have bought from there have been baby toys and books. They often have Grobags and really good toys and puzzles at bargain prices.

They are also quite good for coats, but that could be because they're easier to rummage through.

I have not got the patience to look through any of the other stuff as it's too designer/skimpy/shiny for my tastes. And often in the wrong place so if I ever see anything i like it's not in my size.

I think some TK Maxx branches are better than others. My local one is like a jumble sale , but others I have been in have been more organised.

I have a brilliant pair of jeans that fit perfectly and a stylish raincoat that I bought recently. You can also get some excellent homeware bargains, but you have to be prepared to look.
