Lots of coughing in supermarket today.

Not sure if it’s been the hot weather effecting everyone but there were loads of people coughing in the supermarket today. They sounded like the coughs I had when I had COVID which took me ages to recover from so was feeling very paranoid!

Tree pollen/blossom/bark - really high indexes for those allergies. And they do make you cough because excess mucus goes down the back of your throat. It’s miserable.

OneDreamyGreenMentor · 31/05/2026 18:27

I almost coughed a lung out in CoOp earlier. Lucky for you I was just choking on air.

Thwart · 31/05/2026 18:30

It was me, I have a terrible cold. Sorry.

vodkaredbullgirl · 31/05/2026 18:37

You are been paranoid.

Sidge · 31/05/2026 18:45

Probably allergy related. I’m seeing all my asthmatics exacerbating due to the weather and pollen.

(I’m a HCP)

Even if it was covid there’s naff all you can do about it and for most of us you wouldn’t know if it was covid or any other virus.

ShowOfHands · 31/05/2026 18:48

Half my students were coughing before we broke up for half term. Mostly due to hay fever but quite a few nasty colds around as well.

Allmarbleslost · 31/05/2026 18:53

I'm asthmatic with hayfever. It was probably me.

muppahuppapuppa · 31/05/2026 18:56

It may have been me!

I have had a sore throat, cough and blocked nose for a week 😩

I probably am!

I’m pretty sure I contracted my Covid in Sainsbury’s, New Year 2019. It’s taken me about 5 years to feel well again.

We don’t normally have colds in May though?

So covid is the only thing making people cough? Has the world gone mad?

Course we do. They're not limited to cold weather. Have you never heard of a summer cold? Kindly, OP, I do think you sound a bit paranoid. I mean I do understand why, but coughs and colds can happen at any time of year and can be due to all kinds of viruses

RoseInBloome7 · 31/05/2026 22:04

I’m really suffering with the high pollen count . Might have been me ( no covid , I tested due to working with immunocompromised folk)

tesstez · 31/05/2026 22:06

I noticed lots of kids coughing (in supermarket and out and about) really bad yesterday. I also started feeling as if I was coming down with something.

VeganSteakAndFries · 31/05/2026 22:16

My colleague just had covid.

TotalBaloney · 31/05/2026 22:17

No colds in May? Since when?

FrankieMcGrath · 31/05/2026 22:22

I seem to be choking & then coughing on air - it’s very bizarre!

ClownStar · 31/05/2026 22:26

I've been coughing and sneezing for a fortnight with hay fever.

LaurieFairyCake · 31/05/2026 23:04

I know three clients who’ve had Covid in last few weeks. It’s constantly going round.

You absolutely did not get COVID on New Year 2019 in Sainsbury's.

For one thing, it wasn't detected in the UK until over a year later, and for another thing, COVID didn't even exist at that point. Did you also drive a car in 1840, or go and see the Beatles on tour last week? Perhaps you're taking your summer holiday to Jupiter this year?

You don't have to lie on the internet.

Plus the maths of 7 years ago being 5 years ago.

It's the new iPhone update. Infecting us via tap tech

which would account for not EVERYONE coughing. It's just waiting for us to text it to our android buddies.
