What covid vaccine is currently being offered?

I am in two minds about getting the latest vaccine. Does anyone know what vaccine is being offered most?
if you have/haven’t had it, what was the decider for you?

I was given Moderna for the last two times.

Tel12 · 13/11/2024 22:54

I did some research and decided not to have any more boosters. It's what you need to do, then make up your own mind. Risk v benefit.

MorettiForMargo · 13/11/2024 22:54

Locally it's been the Moderna Spikevax and everyone I know has been having really bad side effects from it...flu like for about a week and swearing they'll never have it again! They've all made full recoveries since but it's put me off enough to keep postponing it. Think I need to just bite the bullet and get it out the way.

ETA I've had the Moderna before and wasn't THAT ill...but neither were they last time so I don't know if this one is different somehow.

Gingerbee · 13/11/2024 23:00

My DD and I had the Moderna Spikevax absolutely no problems.
Don't know anyone who had bad side effects.

Maybe there was another virus going around at the time they got their jab?

All five are housebound with next to no visitors and live across 3 separate villages. In all cases it was in 12-24 hours of the vaccine on 5 separate dates in a 6 week period so I don't think it was viral, to be honest. Same happened to my cousins in the US this year, though they are younger and do get out more so could have picked up something, I guess.

There are quite a lot of threads on MN about side effects this year. I'm relieved to hear both of you were ok, hopefully I won't be that bad either. My most recent Pfizer in the Spring made me quite bad this year and it took a month to recover from as it exacerbated my chronic condition. It's a worry!

Dreamingofgoldfinchlane · 13/11/2024 23:16

I had Pfizer about a month ago and was totally fine, as was DH.

Radionowhere · 13/11/2024 23:17

No side effects other than a bit of a heavy arm for a couple of days. Don't know of anyone who has had side effects other than that and majority of staff at work have had it.

FlatStanley50 · 13/11/2024 23:17

DH and I both had the spikevax with no problems at all (I had been worried). I had quite recently had actual Covid which was horrendous, though. Like flu and food poisoning rolled into one.

Evenstar · 13/11/2024 23:19

I had Pfizer about a month ago, no problems

caringcarer · 13/11/2024 23:58

In October I got Moderna. It's the first time I had it and I got a dreadful headache and sore arm but hopefully I won't get COVID.

DramaAlpaca · 14/11/2024 00:00

DH and I both got the Pfizer one, with no side effects at all.

Growlybear83 · 14/11/2024 02:16

Everyone I know has had Moderna. Apart from one friend who had a very sore arm and night sweats for one night, I'm not aware of anyone who had any side effects. I usually react to everything but I had no side effects at all but my arm was very sore when I had my flu jab the week before.

Tarkan · 14/11/2024 02:36

I have no idea which one I got but my arms ached badly this year. That was both Covid and flu though and I can't remember which way round they were. No other issues at all but I also had Covid the week before my jags as well so I was just glad to be feeling well again so I could have them.

Krumblina · 14/11/2024 03:27

Most places are using Moderna that I've seen.
I had Pfizer and had no side effects at all.

MumChp · 14/11/2024 03:32

I paid myself. Had Pfizer.

RedR1ghtHand · 14/11/2024 03:46

I had moderna, and the flu jab at the same time. No side effects except a sore arm.

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 14/11/2024 03:47

I had Spikevax booster a month ago. I hadn't had a covid vaccine for 2 years but developed a condition that meant I'm now clinically vulnerable. I had a sore arm that night but no other effects at all. Never had any side effects from any COVID vaccine.

greenleader · 14/11/2024 04:52

Had Pfizer this time around (had to pay for it) , no problems other than a sore arm for a couple of days. In the past I have had both Moderna and Pfizer with the same results.

Peregrina · 14/11/2024 10:22

I went down with a cold a few days later, after never having any reactions before. It did make me wonder about it. I might well pass up on the covid vax next year.

PrimalScreaming · 14/11/2024 11:03

I went to get my booster yesterday. I was offered Moderna Spikevax which I have never had before (all previous jabs were Pfizer)

I had pericarditis in 2022 and was hospitalised for over a week. Could have been viral, could have been from having had Covid, could have been from having the jab... I'll never know... But the Moderna Spikevax has Myocarditis and Pericarditis as possible side effects (I expect they all do!)

The senior pharmacist came to talk to me and suggested I hang on a few weeks as they will be rolling out the Pfizer jab again after this latest batch of Moderna has been used. I have had a Pfizer booster since my Pericarditis with no ill effect, so I'm going to stick with that and not take any chances!

Interesting that pericarditis is one of the first side effects mentioned on the Moderna leaflet. It also says about it being seen predominantly in young males. I'm a middle aged female.

I had that no problem at all, likewise my DD.

Can you provide links to some of this evidence?

MorettiForMargo · 19/11/2024 18:36

We have all had Covid several times now

You can't possibly make a sweeping statement like that. I've had every booster and vaccine offered due to my other health problems and only had it once very recently, despite working in care homes and schools.

I have friends and relatives who are all vaccinated and boosted and have still never had it, including colleagues.

I too would like you to provide peer reviewed, trustworthy evidence for your claims.
