Hey guys, my 1 and a half year old has been poorly this last week with what I'm guessing is covid because I've tested positive a couple of days ago. He had a temperature of 39.1 and was very lethargic so we endednup at hospital who didn't give us an answer.
It started Thursday night when he didn't sleep which was unusual for him and it's now Monday and he is still not sleeping or eating much. He's just having the odd bite. Last night he wouldn't sleep until half past 12 and woke up at half 4 and the last few have been similar.
Is this normal, what can I do, because both me and his Dad are struggling with the lack of sleep and worry!

You need rest, rest and some more rest when you have covid.

It's a virus with effects on many body systems and we are only beginning to grasp the full range of effects.

So even if you can't get him to sleep, you have to keep him as calm as possible. And no, no-one can predict how long it will take to settle.

It's difficult to tell, particularly in infants who can't really describe that they're feeling, if the sleeplessness is a neuro symptom or if it's restlessness caused by pain elsewhere or if it's a result of being hot and grotty.

I hope he's through it soon - as indeed I hope that you're fully over it

What did hospital say? Is his temperature coming down with Calpol?
Try to get fluids into him (ice lollies if easier). It's hard as he can't say why he's not eating (does food taste horrid / stomach pain / throat) etc. Try to rest when you can, even if it's sitting on the sofa with him. Hope you all feel better soon.
