How long were you poorly with Covid?

I've just tested positive for Covid, feeling rubbish and I'm away on holiday. Starting feeling unwell about 3 days ago but got worse today.

How long are people feeling unwell for with it at the moment? (I'm normally healthy and mid 30's if that makes any difference).

Just wondering what to expect and whether I might get to actually enjoy any of this holiday!

😥I'm hoping I'll be better in a few days but last time I had it was about 8 days! :(

I had it recently and felt a bit tired for 24 hours and thought is that it?? Wouldn’t even have thought about COVID if someone close to me hadn’t just had it. But no, that wasn’t the end of it, two days later I felt absolutely rubbish, shivering and exhausted and stayed like that for about a week.

oh goodness Smashburgers I'm so sorry.

I'm self employed so being ill is even more shit but also don't want to rush back...

thismummydrinksgin · 10/09/2024 22:00

Really felt poorly for 5 days then got gradually better every day.

colouringindoors · 10/09/2024 22:40

Thanks thismummy 🤞🤞 for similar.

colouringindoors · 11/09/2024 12:14

Headache much worse today. Don't think I'll be going anywhere for a while 🤒

colouringindoors · 12/09/2024 13:26

Any tips re Covid headache gratefully received.

TMATT · 15/09/2024 14:45

I tested positive on 10/9/24, the 1st symptom was a headache. The only thing that worked was co-codamol from the pharmacist.

Coming up to 5 years in Dec. Friend brought it back from China. It caused aneurisms one of which haemorrhaged and led to years of physio meds, hospital stays, inc icu, a couple of rare autoimmune conditions, chemo and I'm just about to finish oral chemo...

Oh god, I'm so sorry. Just horrendous.

colouringindoors · 15/09/2024 22:12

Thanks @TMATT My GP has given me codeine on prescription. How long were you ill for? I'm doing better but still utterly exhausted. Symptoms started 11 days ago....

Grawlix · 16/09/2024 08:30

I started with my third appalling cold of the year last week and was feeling totally fed up - previous two times I tested repeatedly, always negative for Covid, but felt absolutely awful with classic symptoms: full-on snotty cold, aching, headache, nausea (I'd only had Covid once before at that point). The first cold in particular went on for weeks and weeks and I felt I was never going to get better - but still, negative tests throughout.

This time I thought, oh blast it, another sodding cold, I suppose I’d better test but of course it'll be negative like the previous two times. It was positive instantly. A huge thick line. Exactly the same symptoms though, except an awful cough this time as well, and breathless. Haven’t ever lost taste or smell. Now 8 days or so since I started feeling ill and feeling a bit better, cold and cough receding, but just had another instant positive test. Definitely suspect the previous two 'colds' were Covid too but for some reason never showed up on tests.

FishFlaked · 16/09/2024 08:35

Never got over the fatigue but pushed on through for sake of my job and family. Now diagnosed with an autoimmune condition and POTs. Suggest resting until you can’t rest any more to get rid of Covid. It’s really not just a cold for a lot of people.

colouringindoors · 16/09/2024 19:45

Day 12. That exhausted to the bone feeling I had when pregnant. Trying not to panic and mostly failing.

shewolfmum · 17/09/2024 22:58

3 weeks. Odd smell and taste, full on bunged up head and sore throat, full on snot more than I have ever seen, smokers cough and inability to smell horseradish or eucalyptus or anything and everything tastes like bleach or smoke. Oh blocked ear, deaf. Erm....aches allot in my but and hips in the beginning. Test twice both negative!

Apolloneuro · 18/09/2024 15:18

I think I’ve been unlucky, but in my 6th week now. Felt like I was dying for about 24 hours (was actually admitted to hospital), ill for about four weeks, now in recovery phase. Tested positive for 16 days.

colouringindoors · 21/09/2024 10:26

Two and a half weeks and counting 😔 self-employed. Did 2 gentle hours work yesterday morning and it has totally wiped me out. Don't know what I'm going to do about work 😔

Iforgotagain · 21/09/2024 10:32

2 days in bed, 3 days moping about feeling tired then back to work. But really it doesn't matter how other people fared, you're not going to have the same experience as anyone else as everyone has different levels of immunity as you can see from the varying responses.

shewolfmum · 22/09/2024 09:31

Iforgotagain that is what is driving me mad! Yogi..organic food...walk lots...love my job...meditate...take good vitamins....doing absolute everything I can think of....sooooo unwell for weeks. Just don't get it.

AriadnesDog · 22/09/2024 09:46

I just felt like I had a bad cold, runny nose, coughing a bit, generally 'out of sorts' but feeling a lot better after a week, took a couple of days extra off to be on the safe side then once I rested clear I went back to work. I know I was quite lucky though, that was a couple of years ago when people were still getting it quite severely, guess we're all different.

nanoghost · 22/09/2024 09:54

I tested positive recently, felt really rubbish and drained for about 4 days. DH felt better after 3 but he can take lemsip. Had a cough for a few days afterwards.

colouringindoors · 12/10/2024 17:41

Six weeks and counting 😔

A good 6 weeks when I got it in June. It was awful

Same for me - and in June too!

Previous two times it had been about a week to 10 days. In June I was absolutely floored - nauseous, dizzy, exhausted - and the after effects lasted 6 weeks!

colouringindoors · 12/10/2024 19:36

@llamadrama20 @dressinggowntime Any advice? Anything yo u took/did that helped?

Childrenofthestones · 09/12/2024 08:05
