Help! Covid second time and first time I was hospitalised

I've gone and tested positive for covid and I've got a high temp of 40..body aches..sweating..chills..headache..funny taste in mouth and super runny nose 😔

I'm so scared after being hospitalised the first time with it. I had pneumonia 7 days after i got unwell. I was so unwell. I'm so anxious. I've been vaccinated but I didn't think it'd feel the same as it did in the first few days as last time.

Any stories anyone can share :(

My Dad hospitalised first time - caught it twice since and vaccinated- absolutely ok. Yes flu symptoms and poorly for a few days but much better outcome!

My friend has hospitalised first time round, second time (last month) she had meds. Are you considered at risk?

SeaToSki · 25/07/2024 16:25

I was hospitalised first time, second time was a breeze. Nasty sore throat, felt exhausted for two weeks, but that was it. Take loads of vit D,C and zinc. All are v effective.

Miamoo134 · 25/07/2024 16:30

@theeyeofdoe what meds was she given? I have mild asthma but very mild. Ahh I'm just so nauseous and the smell and taste of whatever is in my mouth is not great

You have my sympathies- I have it at the moment and Ive been prescribed anti virals as I have a variety of autoimmune diseases
The anti virals are awful! Make you feel so sick.
I don't know if mild asthma/previous hospitalisation will mean you will qualify- try your gp (I went via 111 and what a palava that was!)

SeaToSki · 25/07/2024 16:44

poor you, can someone go and get you a Vit C drink thing? Do you have any Vit D and Zinc in?

I was in hospital the first time around (unvaccinated) but the second time I stayed at home (vaccinated) and felt really unwell but I could manage it. During the first infection, I then also got double pneumonia and the doctors scared the life out of me by saying I was very ill and they cannot say what the outcome would be 😦 It was horrendous and gave me so much trauma but catching Covid for a second time with vaccination on board has reassured me that it’s manageable. I hope you are able to rest, have plenty of fluids and hopefully you will start to feel better very soon. For me, I was also advised to increase protein intake and I also did some breathing exercises regularly to ensure my oxygen levels stayed above a danger point.

@Mydoghealsmyheart ahhh thank you! These words have really helped. Tbh it's been 3 days tomorrow afternoon and I'm feeling a little better - slightly more energy than when it first started but I was absolutely battered the first time to the point I was vomiting every time I coughed and was lying in my own sick and sweat cos I physically just thought I was dying until I was admitted and antibiotics kicked in.

I need to keep positive as it's nothing like last time - I wouldn't even be able to type this message. Understandably if we had it first time and it was a bad experience, we'd be scared the second time but I am vaccinated so hoping that's working it's magic too. I've heard about protein! Now my appetite is a little bit back I will get hubby to stock up tomorrow. Thank you ♡

I’m so pleased to read that you think you may have turned a corner. Take care of yourself. 🌺

Mydoghealsmyheart · 01/08/2024 19:50

Miamoo134 How are you feeling now, better I hope?

Miamoo134 · 01/08/2024 22:56

@Mydoghealsmyheart I'm pretty much mended and so so grateful! It was around 4 days of fever but very quickly started getting better. It has left me with some lethargy and fatigue though but I need to relax a little. I had a tonsillectomy surgery 13th July so I need to remember I was barely eating much calories for a week or 2 then caught covid and barely ate and had been on morphine/codeine. Slowly picking up and will be listening to my body. Thank you so much for checking in! Lots of love :)

Oh bless, I feel for you. My son has had it a couple of times and so have I. It's awful while it lasts but there is no reason to suppose you will have pneumonia this time round.. You may feel better tomorrow but you must get your temperature down, tepid sponge and lots of water. The heat doesn't help.

Good luck, let us know how you are in the morning.
