Hiatus hernia after covid.

Had covid 3 months ago, now got a large hiatus hernia.
Had indigestion, belching and felt nausea during covid.
Appetite has been bad since, ended up in hospital Thursday evening, discharged 23 hours later.
Prescribed omprazole earlier in the week, doze now doubled.
If you've had hiatus hernia did you end up operated on.
What foods were you able to eat or had to avoid.
I know nothing spicy, fried or bread.
Did mints help??
Think there was something else I wanted to ask, but had virtually no sleep last night.

Posting for traffic as I had Covid in early December and suffered terrible indigestion, reflux and heartburn which has continued. I am taking Omprazole on and off. Quite depressed to hear yours has caused a hiatus hernia and interested to see what people say. Covid still has a lot to answer for. Personally I find butter and sweet sugary food makes it worse. So I can manage a biscuit but cakes, jams, marmalades are out. Proper honey is fine but a cheap sugary mix is not. What seems to help a bit is herb teas.

Thanks for your reply, I'm just presuming they're linked.
Hopefully your be fine, last time I felt such pain was childbirth.
Even morphine didn't take it away, was hoping it would ease it.
Think my daughter has some mint teas somewhere, will give them ago. She didn't like them.

@iwanttoscream I have a hiatus hernia as well was diagnosed in 2018 and now has gone from a sliding to a rolling hiatus hernia which is worse than a sliding one as it can cause strangulation but I can't have surgery as I am undergoing IVF. My main symptoms as gas which causes belching and bloating at times. I did stop taking PPI last year and was fine but I think I need to start taking it again. I am considering surgery although some people have had good results and some not so good. I think eventually I will need surgery due to the hernia I have. How are you feeling now?

OP I'm sorry to hear you were in such awful pain when you started the thread How are you doing now?

@JCLV I've been really struggling with gastric symptoms a lot like yours for a good 5 weeks following what must've been covid. I didn't test back then because I knew it wouldn't tell me anything useful, and the more typical cough/cold symptoms came and pretty much went. But it all upset my stomach and I'm still struggling with those symptoms now, as well as headaches. (Which might be more to do with the probiotic I'm talking to help my stomach! 😕) Also increasingly tired during the day and these last couple of days have just decided not to go out because the thought of the nausea, stomach pain and headache while out of the house puts me off. I'd say this weekend I've got typical fluey aches and stiffness too. The joy!

How has your recovery been going since you posted back in February? I hope you're feeling much better 🙏

Forgot to say @JCLV , eating sweet stuff like scones and cake really brings on the stomach ache and gurgling gut! Which is grim, I don't eat a lot of sugary stuff but what I do eat is important to my day to day sanity 😄 I then have to take a probiotic and drink lots of peppermint tea, which helps to settle things a bit but even so I feel grotty and out of sorts generally.

I slowly but surely have felt a lot better in most areas. I can keep the heartburn at bay if I eat a bland diet but the slightest thing can set it off. That’s the only symptom really that I still have.
