What are the normal covid symptoms at the moment?

Not feeling that great today and it doesn’t feel like a normal cold more achy, headachey, intermittent cough. Going to try and get some tests but just wondered what covid is looking like to others at the moment? Could really do without it this week!

Why does it matter whether it's Covid or some other seasonal cold virus? What will you do with the information?

Cloud44 · 24/01/2024 18:41

Fair point, would probably just make sure I keep a distance from the elderly / vulnerable if covid

@ILikeItWhatIsIt ‘Some other seasonal cold virus’ implies Covid is just a cold. It’s not if you’re vulnerable. I know someone who was shielding but caught it for the first time in the summer and is still unwell with long Covid.
So it’s perfectly sensible to want to be aware if you have it.

But not if it's something other than Covid? That's my point.

I don’t think there’s such a thing as normal symptoms, it affects everyone differently. 3 of us all had it within a couple of weeks of each other. One had a horrendous cold and cough, one had a headache and mild cold and the other was laid up in bed for a couple of days and then had a dodgy stomach!

oOiluvfriendsOo · 24/01/2024 19:23

I had it a few weeks ago, was mild cold symptoms with an annoyingly constant runny nose.

New2024 · 24/01/2024 19:26

There is something doing the rounds at the moment that has a cough and headache plus sniffling. No one has said it’s COVID hereabouts

I have to test for work. Even if I didn't i would still test. My dad is elderly, in bad health and worries about covid.

I respected his wishes and stayed away.

We're just moving this over to the correct topic now. Flowers

MadamVastra · 24/01/2024 19:30

You're infectious before you show symptoms anyway so a bit of a moot point really I think

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 24/01/2024 19:35

My dc have had very similar symptoms this week, they tested negative for Covid so was just some virus doing the rounds.

goodnessmeits2024 · 24/01/2024 19:50

My unexpected debilitating symptom was anxiety. Huge overwhelming anxiety for three weeks.

I've had Covid before and was poorly but nothing like this.

exexpat · 24/01/2024 22:28

I had covid (again) a couple of weeks ago and it was back to the classic symptoms of sore throat, very nasty cough, and losing my sense of taste/smell for a couple of days.

I tested positive on about day 5 - anecdotes I have heard recently are that people often don't get positive lateral flows if they test in the first few days. So getting a negative test as soon as your symptoms start doesn't mean it is not covid.

daisydalrymple · 24/01/2024 22:31

Got it currently Really bad Headache, cough, dry throat, cold symptoms / runny nose.
ds1 also has it, not got his temp below 38.4 for a week, plus my symptoms above.

Rooma · 24/01/2024 22:33

I tested positive 2 weeks ago. Runny nose was first symptom followed by aches/lethargy. 2 weeks on I'm still massively congested. Taste/ smell also gone.

Agree with pp about anxiety- I've got imposter syndrome on a good day but my work anxiety has been really bad in January

NCGrandParent · 24/01/2024 22:36

Sore throat first and then head and aches flu like. Cough for days. Bed for 2 days , very fatigued for a week.

Onegingerhead · 25/01/2024 04:14

Runny nose, sneezing, congestion. Insomnia right now.
Really big fat positive first day after symptoms started (work asked me to get a test).

Absolutely45 · 25/01/2024 15:20

Had CV last September, boy was i ill.

Tested (due to having vulnerable in-laws) positive but apart from feeling rough on Tuesday, symptoms, touch wood, are mild, sneezing, runny nose, feel weak but better each day.
Hope it stays this way.

Responding not only to OP, but a PP too
I Have it currently.
tested because one of my grandparents was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and I was planning on visiting her, another has cancer and is under going chemo, so when I woke up feeling crappy with the following symptom:

fever
aches
shivers
headache
congested nose
sore throat

but almost 2x more than a usual cold.

I thought id better test to make sure I dont pass it on to my grandparents whos immune systems are taking a battering anyway.

since then, i’ve developed nausea, tummy issues, fatigue, a horrible taste in my mouth that I can’t get rid of, burning in my chest & short of breath going upstairs.

Its certainly v weird, i've (so far) nothing like any of that, my partner who is also positive, has had nothing more than a runny nose and bit stuffy.

Hope you feel better very soon.

I ve no idea whether this is a valid treatment or not but i eat loads of chicken soup, apparently has something in it that helps, plenty fluids and ginger/honey tea is soothing too.

ListenLinda · 26/01/2024 08:19

@Absolutely45 thank you, I do feel better today and the positive is very faint this morning.
plenty of fluids has helped a lot. Hope it doesn’t get too rough for you & your DH.
